I enjoyed the episode, for the same reasons as many of you - and had dislikes about it, also for the same reasons as many of you. The reason I found it gripping and moving was because of Scott and his family. He really was great and I confess the scene where he told Andy that if it were up to him, he'd let nature take its course, made me tear up. That's a tough thing for someone so young to admit but the actor did an amazing job and I think it spoke to the relationship between Andy and Scott - that really worked. I believed in it - and hence why it hit Andy so hard.

But then at the end, oy, from a bit of hand-holding with Lisa (who's a doctor BTW, not a nurse) in the cafeteria straight to Andy's hotel room? It could have worked - and I agree with Grace about that being down to the director - but it just felt awkward and contrived. This was about moving the story on NOT about being true to the characters.

The other story about the daisy chain was fantastic, I thought. I really warmed to these people and believed in their altruism. I just wish we'd had more time on that and ditched the third story about the girl being poisoned by her co-worker. That didn't add anything and meant, once again, they tried to cram too much into the episode.

In terms of pacing, I thought it was better - the musical sequence during the transplant was good, for example, but still trying to do too much in terms of plot and not enough with the characters. At least we did get to see more of Andy - to get to know him a little better.

Better. But still, so many missed opportunities. :sigh: :sigh:

The second photo does bode well for some serious drama.

Even from the first scene, where Andy and Scott hugged... I bought into their relationship. And part of that is that Scott was on before. So the relationship carried over and built on what we already knew. The show runners did not seem to get that potential very well... cramming eps with too much, and trying to force emotions and relationships into a few minutes per storyline, instead of letting there be running stories, like Kuol's, over the season. But yeah, these two actors worked it for me last night. :clapping:

And even as they did a good thing with the Scott story, they continued upon their self-destructive path with confusing the viewers with extraneous side-stories. Even the opening sequence, at the grocery store... did you not figure out immediately that the little girl was safe, it was the rescuer who was gonna crash??? So we wasted 2 minutes of precious episode time on an annoying mom on her damn cell phone in the store. I mean, pulease!

I realllllly enjoyed the Andy bits from last night... his frustration at his own ineptitude and disinterest in administrating, his connection to this patient who, I believe, reminds him a bit of his own younger self, and the greater interaction between him and his colleagues that we got to see, finally. I WANTED to enjoy the personal moment with Dr. Lisa, but as we've all said, too sudden, no build up, no lead in, no sense. Someone takes your hand in comfort and you pin em to a wall???? That's like the worst of what fanfic gets panned for!!! (On other boards, of course... )

So I came to the realization last night that I enjoy watching Alex, and will do in anything (big news) but that this particular group of writers, directors, producers, and show runner would NEVER, even if given a promise of 5 seasons on air, NEVER manage to pull it all together. Their (Her? Is it just Barbee making these dramatically inept decisions?) vision, their taste, their comprehension of what makes good story-telling is just sub-par.

So, for Alex, it is good that CBS realized that so fast... and I shall enjoy these last eps of 3R for what they are. Mediocre stories that star--at least part of the time-- my very favorite actor in the universe.

Agree about the transition from the cafeteria to the bedroom feeling rushed....

It's been more than six months since the show was pulled and I'd forgotten a few things until I read some of your comments....way back early in the series, there was a scene where Andy is performing surgery and Lisa (the other doctor) is up in the observation gallery watching. He looks up to see her and she gives him a warm smile. OK, not much, but I think it was the show's attempt to set the stage for a possible hook up between the two. Later on in the series, Lisa loses a patient ( a child, one that reminds her of a sibling she lost) and ends up on the balcony at the end of the show being comforted by Andy. My reaction at the time was I didn't think there was much in the way of chemistry between the two, yet thought there was chemistry between Rena (the ex-wife) and Andy.

I guess next week, we'll see.

I have the earlier episodes recorded on DVDs. I'll go back and find the episodes I'm talking about (can't remember the titles).

BTW - if there is some kind soul out there that can either tell me or point me to the right software for capturing and images from DVDs, please PM me. I'm graphically challenged :blushing:

Last night's numbers:

A very slight increase in terms of total viewers; demo and share the same as last week.

Well, it's in the ball park with the other shows in its time period... not many peeps watching tv on Saturdays, apparently and them that are, are not in the demo...

And I wonder how many people ASSUME the 3R's are also reruns... everything else is...

Probably quite a few, grace. Furthermore, there are some CBS affiliates that aren't showing the episodes. My sister lives in central Virginia and can pick up both the DC stations and the ones out of Richmond. The first night 3R was on, DC didn't show it, Richmond did. Last night DC showed it.

Does anyone know the song used during the daisy chain transplant sequence?

Offhand, no, but I recorded it...don't they acknowledge the songs played in the show?

The song is "Kathleen" by David Gray. It's available on iTunes.

(The lyrics were so hard to understand, it was tricky to find.)

:giggle:

Just goes to show how hearing something in the right setting can have an effect. I usually loathe David Gray but I liked this a lot. Thanks for the info. :flowers:
