This Conversation... (Challenge #135) --PG-13

Post by librarian_7 »

For the Conversational Challenge, 250 words of conversation only. Usual disclaimer...I don't own these guys.

This Conversation...

“Mick. What the hell?”

“Go away.”

“Doubtful. What’re you doing, anyway?”

“What’s it look like?”

“Looks like you’re sitting in full sunshine, drinking, at 10 a.m.”

“Your powers of observation overwhelm me, Joz’f.”

“So tell me what’s going on. And don’t try to be snarky, it doesn’t suit you.”

“I don’t want to talk about it. But I will say, God is cruel.”

“And why is that? This time, anyway.”

“Because all the liquor in the world, won’t get me drunk.”

“That is a drawback. But then again, you don’t have to suffer through the hangovers, either.”

“Be worth it, to be drunk. Once.”

“So, mind if I join you?”

“Don’t care.”

“Okay, talk to me, Mick. Tell me what’s happened.”

“And you care, why?”

“Humor me.”

“I didn’t have a choice, Joz’f. She kidnapped a child.”

“Coraline?”

“Who else?”

“And you took the kid back. So?”

“It’s Coraline. Joz’f, I –I didn’t have a choice. I had to kill her.”

“Wait. You’re telling me, Coraline’s dead?”

“Yeah.”

“Damn.”

“Yeah.”

“Oh, man, Mick. Killing your sire. You know the Cleaners will take you out for that.”

“Fine. Whatever. Right now I don’t really care."

“How’d you do it, Mick? How’d you kill her?”

“I—I burned her, Joz’f. Okay? I burned her alive.”

“Mick. I know Coraline. I know you. I’m not going to let you die for this.”

“It doesn’t matter, Joz’f. Not anymore.”

“I’m going to leave now, Mick. Pull yourself together. And this conversation?”

“Yeah?”

“Never happened.”

Oooh, this is awesome. I can see (and definitely hear) this happening. Poor Mick--in the depths of despair, but he still has a shred of his sense of humor. And Josef, razzing him unmercifully at the same time he totally has his back. This is the friendship we know and love.

Josef has Mick's back. I guess he told the Cleaners a sanitized version so they wouldn't go after Mick. Like, she isn't really dead because Duvalls don't burn. But he didn't tell Mick.
Great answer to the challenge.

I'm thinking, that as vamps often have to drop off the radar unexpectedly, the best thing would be a shrug, and a "I really don't know where she is. I'm sure she'll turn up eventually, she always does." (Although, come to think of it, that might be a little too prophetic...)

Oh, Lucky

This is fabulous!

So very logical. Mick, being Mick, would react like this and plunge into a near suicidal depression.

Did Josef protect him from himself, or protect him from what Josef already knew was true?

Probably a bit of both, but long story short, the elder vampire had Mick's back when he needed him most.

Wonderful answer to the challenge!

Thank you!

Jenna

This is wonderful! Poor Mick! You did a wonderful job capturing the guilt he felt, and I loved Josef's determination to protect him.

Excellent work! :clapping:

This is utterly perfect, Lucky  Another missing scene that should have happened.

Josef's snark is in full swing and the banter is spot on. It vanishes, though, when he understands his friend's pain and the possible consequences of Mick's actions.

Brilliant Lucky...I can picture Mick and Josef having this conversation. And no he never mentions he never saw the ashes. Who knew that would come back and bite him.

I think Josef is very impressed with what Mick did and he doesn't want him to suffer the consequences, although one could argue he would have a defense with the Cleaners. "She was going to turn a child. A child is uncontrollable I did it for the tribe." Not that he was in the emotional state to come up with that at the time but that would be Josef's defense.

Okay, Josef ... ;) ;) ;) Your conversation never happened, Lucky didn't overhear it, and she most definitely did not share it with us. You can trust us on that. Now go take care of business!
