Irresolute (Champagne Challenge #134) PG-13

Post by librarian_7 »

For the 36 hour drabble challenge. Usual disclaimers apply.

Irresolute

Another glass of champagne, sweetheart? No?

You asked about New Year’s resolutions, I think. I don’t make resolutions. It goes along with the whole perspective thing, and I gave that up centuries ago. What would I resolve, anyway? Get richer? That’s a given. Better-looking? I don’t think so. Everything else, I’ve got covered.

Of course, there is that townhouse in New York…where my heart sleeps. But I won’t mention that.

Resolutions are for chumps. Easily made, easily broken. My life…is what I want it to be. Now, and always.

Now drink up, doll. I’ve got plans for you. After midnight.

Ooooh, this is Josef to the nines. He knows what he wants the world to see. And he's VERY good at hiding what he doesn't want anyone to know about. But it's still there, and if you know what to look for (or if you can read a vamp's mind, as Lucky can) you can see the sadness behind the snark and the self-assured exterior.

And the vulnerable parts just make the delicious shell even more delectable, don't they? :hearts:  :rose:

This is Josef Kostan to perfection, all right.

Over the decades, centuries he has learned to divorce himself from what he can't influence and change and major on the things that he can, and has gotten very good at it. Naturally.

He once said that he doesn't do 'regrets' but he clearly does on occasion...and that makes even his inhumanity a bit less...intimidating.

Nicely done.

This is the public face that Josef shows, the carefree man, one fully in control of his life. Yet the red haired beauty in the brownstone reminds him that you can't control everything, no matter how hard you try.

As alle said Lucky, you do know the mind and heart of Josef Kostan :flowers:

Oh Josef... :Mickangel: I hope that one day your heart wakes up.

Josef puts up so many walls and fronts. He may have fooled his friends, his associates, and (some of) his freshies, but he cannot fool himself.

Very nice, Lucky! :flowers:

Oh, thanks! I like to think that by now, I've got Josef fairly well sussed out. But one never knows, with that vamp...

I just don't see him as the "list of New Year's resolutions" sort of guy, though!

Seriously...I tried once, NOT listening to him. I like to never heard the end of it. :snicker:

For me, at least...where Josef is, the memory of Sarah, sleeping through the years, is also ever-present. Without that, there's no understanding of his soul. He can be snarky and hedonistic, but there's always that sorrow that makes him vulnerable. And what's more, he knows this....

As usual you have Josef down perfectly. I tried to think of a resolution for him but I couldn't come up with a single thing. Obviously he was telling you there are none to be had. :clapping:

Josef hides his heart very well.
He reminds me of someone who had a picture of himself in the attic and stayed always young.
Josef has his heart squared away in NY and stays young, but his love does too. So sad.

There's actually a story of mine that addresses that very concept. It's called "A Literary Digression."
