BJ's Freshman Adventure - Chapter 3 (PG-13)

Post by MickLifeCrisis »

Disclaimer: I do not own Moonlight or any of its characters.
Rated: PG-13
A/N: BJ is my OC, the adopted daughter of Mick and Beth. She was first introduced in Milestones, Part 1. It is not absolutely necessary to read that first, but it might help. BJ also has her own Halloween and Christmas stories.

Huge thanks to Moonlighter for being my idea bouncer this time as well as my beta. You would not be reading this if it hadn't been for her.

I update every other night.

Previously in BJ’s Freshman Adventure ...

“Thanks BJ, for talking with me. I’m still scared, but it doesn’t feel as heavy a burden as it did before.” They smiled at each other and Dana turned back towards the bathroom.

Chapter 3

Even though it was a Saturday night, BJ was in her room studying. She jumped when the door suddenly banged open and turned to see a young man burst into the room carrying Dana. He froze when he saw BJ.

“Oh! I didn’t know Dana had a roommate,” he said as he gently stood Dana on her feet. She seemed a bit wobbly so he continued to hold her up.

“Who are you?” BJ asked. Then she saw Dana. “Omigod, what’s happened?!” she screamed, rushing over to them. “Dana? How bad are you hurt? And who is this guy?”

“I’ll be okay,” Dana said weakly. “This is Curtis. He’s a…” Curtis pulled Dana to his side so sharply she yelped. “Ow! Take it easy, will ya? It’s okay, Curtis,” Dana said. “She knows.”

The boy named Curtis scowled and looked down at Dana with narrowed eyes. “She knows? You told her?”

He’s a vampire? BJ thought to herself. “No, she didn’t tell me,” she rushed to say in Dana’s defense. “I figured it out myself. I have...." she hesitated. "Let's just say I have connections to the vampire community. Can you please just help her over to the bed?”

He didn’t move, staring at BJ. “Connections? What do you mean? What kind of connections?"

“Look, it’s a long story and I’ll explain it some other time. PLEASE! Help her lie down on the bed! And tell me what happened!”

Curtis led Dana over to her bed and helped her lay down. He stepped aside as BJ moved in closer and knelt next to the bed to look her over. Her clothes were torn and she could tell Dana had been slapped in the face, hard. She already had the beginnings of a black eye. “There is some juice in the mini-fridge, if you could get it please. I’ll go get a cold washcloth,” BJ added as she started to stand up. She hadn’t taken two steps before Curtis was back with both items. BJ took the items, casting a wary eye on Curtis. “Are you the one who did this to her?” she asked angrily as she started to wipe off Dana’s face.

Dana grabbed BJ’s hand. “No…no…he’s the one who saved me…stopped the attack…”

BJ looked back up at Curtis. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. Why don’t you tell me what happened so Dana can drink her juice?”

Curtis pulled out a desk chair and straddled it. “I don’t really hang out at that club very much. I just stop by every so often for a fresh drink and to talk to some of the guys I know who live there all the time. I had just finished feeding and as I walked down the hall I could hear a vamp and his freshie struggling in another room. I scented how scared she was and how pissed off he was. The door was halfway open so I glanced inside. I saw the vamp backhand her,” he pointed to Dana, “so hard she fell off the couch onto the floor. He was on her in a flash, and she was screaming. I ran in, pulled him off of her and threw him against the wall. He was momentarily stunned, then shook it off and jumped back to his feet. But apparently he didn’t think she was worth fighting over. He zipped himself up and said I could have her. He spit on her and stalked out of the room. I picked her up, she told me where she lived, and I brought her back here.”

Dana struggled to prop herself up on her elbows. “He toned that down some, for my sake I’m sure,” she said as she looked at Curtis. BJ thought he would have blushed if he could. “That vamp wanted more than just blood. After he drank from my wrist he pushed me back on the couch and started putting his hand up my skirt. When I resisted he slapped me and then he tore off my bikinis.” Dana self-consciously pulled her torn skirt down trying to cover as much of herself as she could. “I kicked him where it counts and he backhanded me to the floor. He had his pants open, his fangs bared, and was going to rape me when Curtis pulled him off of me and sent him flying across the room.” She smiled gratefully at him. “Thanks,” she added softly. Curtis smiled and nodded. “Then he told Curtis I was a worthless bitch and he could have me.”

BJ sat back on her heels, looking between the two of them. “Thank you, Curtis, for saving my friend. It was about time for her to meet one of the good vamps.”

Curtis smiled at BJ. “You’re welcome.” He turned to look at Dana. “So why do you work there, anyway? No offense, but you seem pretty anemic. I think you’re overfeeding. Is the money that good?”

Dana scoffed. “What money?” And she explained all over again about how Eric Gerrard had tricked the work study females into becoming freshies, and then refused to pay them, threatening to kill them if they didn’t continue working for him.

“What? He doesn’t pay you? All of us who use that club pay him daily, weekly or even monthly, depending on how often we show up there. That guy is rolling in bucks!”

“So you mean he collects from the clients and then just keeps it for himself?” BJ was furious. Dana started crying, and BJ’s face softened. “Don’t you worry about it honey, we’ll figure something out.” She glanced up and down her friend’s body. “Um, do you want to go to the health clinic? I’ll go with you if you want.”

Dana shook her head. “No, that’s okay. I’d never be able to explain the bite marks. And he didn’t actually…” she looked at Curtis and blushed. “Curtis stopped the creep before he did anything.”

“Okay then. Why don’t you shower and change and get some rest. You won’t be going back to the club anytime soon. Curtis and I are going to take a walk.” She looked at him imploringly, and he nodded his assent.

“You take care of yourself, Dana. I’ll be seeing you,” he said as he left the room.

Eric Gerrard was busy working at his desk Monday afternoon when there was a knock on his door. “Yes?” he said distractedly, not bothering to look up.

“Mr. Gerrard?” He stopped working when he heard the female voice and smiled at the newcomer. “I’m Bethany St. John, Dana Miller’s roommate.”

Suddenly Gerrard was very attentive. “Yes, of course. Come in. What can I do for you?”

BJ closed the office door, a move Gerrard didn’t fail to notice, and sat across the desk from him. “She said she does some supplemental office work for you sometimes? To earn some extra money?”

“Yee-ess,” he said hesitantly, drawing out the word. All his senses were on high alert.

“Well, she asked me to stop by and tell you she won’t be able to come into the office for a few evenings. Seems she got into a fight with her boyfriend and he roughed her up pretty badly. She also asked if I could pick up her paycheck for her.” Gerrard gave her a cold hard stare. BJ didn’t even flinch and continued chatting as if they were discussing the weather. “She claims he poked her with a barbecue fork, but that’s just ridiculous, don’t you think? The marks look just like vampire bites to me, and I told her so. I asked her if she was working as a freshie, but she denied it. Said she didn’t know what I was talking about. She’s sticking by her story that her boyfriend stabbed her with a barbecue fork and then tried to rape her.” She paused and looked directly into Gerrard’s eyes. “But see, I DO know what I’m talking about. I have family connections to the vampire community. I also happen to know that you are keeping the money meant for the freshies for yourself, and paying them nothing. So if you don’t want an investigation into your little trafficking ring here, you will write out a check for Dana’s wages and release her from your employ.”

Gerrard coolly stared back. “And what makes you think I won’t just swat you like a fly right here and now?”

“Because I won’t let you.” Gerrard looked up, startled to see Curtis standing at the door, stake in one hand, a handgun with a silencer in the other. Curtis waved the gun. “Silver ammunition, if you’re wondering.”

Gerrard leaned back in his chair. “Well, I see you have left me no choice.” He pulled out a checkbook, wrote out a check, and handed it to BJ.

“Thank you,” she said as she put the check in her purse and stood up. “A pleasure doing business with you.”

“Oh, but the pleasure is all mine.” As BJ backed out of the door, he threw out one last comment. “And I’d watch my back if I were you.”

Curtis smiled. “I’ll say the same goes for you,” and he also backed out of the office, following BJ.

Eric Gerrard stared at the closed door, fuming. How did that little pipsqueak of a girl get the drop on me? And what did she mean about having family connections to the community? He turned to his computer and pulled up the admission application for Bethany St. John, determined to find out everything he could about her.

For the next few days Curtis did his best to escort both Dana and BJ back and forth to all their classes and Dana’s job. BJ protested, sure that Eric Gerrard was no longer a threat. “After all,” she told Curtis, “why would he care about losing one freshie when he’s got plenty to feed his clubhouse of frat boy wannabes? If freshies are so valuable he wouldn’t be threatening to kill them off all the time, now would he?”

Her protests fell on deaf ears. “You don’t understand vamps as well as you think you do BJ,” Curtis replied. “Gerrard is not going to forget what you did.”

BJ should have listened to Curtis.

Why am I not surprised? I know BJ isn't biologically their child, but Beth and Mick's characteristics have rubbed off on her.

Inquisitiveness and a sense of justice.

BJ's definitely her mother's daughter - I can so see Beth doing something like this.

I'm thinking if Gerrard sees who BJ's father is, that he'll take a huge step back - Mick connects to Josef, who has to be well-known in the Community...but I'm betting he won't. :teeth:

Yes, BJ does seem to have her mother's knack for attracting trouble.

Excellent chapter, but B.J. is in over her head. Curtis knows it, but honestly, he may be in over his head, too.

Eric is a genuinely Bad Guy, and anyone who can coldly use people like he has, and killed this as thoughtlessly as he has for money would think nothing of doing the same to B.J., Dana and Curtis.

Somebody call Mick, Josef and the Cleaners. Right now!

I've got a bunch of catching up to do... and this story is getting really exciting! I like Curtis, and I bet Mick and Beth will, too. Assuming he survives, that is...

I love the way you're revealing more and more about the vamp world in BJ's new area... especially the nasty underbelly of it! :gasp: Can't wait to find out what happens...

I like Curtis. A lot. And I would love to see more of him after this story. He's too good an OC to invent and toss aside.

Dana's darn fortunate he happened by when he did. That situation had already gone south, and was only going to get much worse.

Oh, BJ... Please be careful! :nails: I don't think Gerrard liked being shown up by a pesky little human. Curtis seems to be a great guy, but he can only do so much to protect BJ and Dana. I think it is time to call in reinforcements!

No, Gerrard didn't like being shown up by a pesky little human at all. So what's he going to do about it??
