I’m familiar with the rhythm of this dance.

Seduction is a favorite, well-worn tool.
It’s brought me many things in life I seek-
Things oft denied most women of my time,
And helped me stay one step ahead of mobs.

While seeking any pleasures I could find
I met my Mick and carefully planned our dance.
A flash of lust--and he fell right in step
In him, I saw my match in every way.

White lace, satin and he got what he desired
Then in my own way, I bound him to me.
Choosing not to see what he kept hidden
My hasty actions pushed him past my reach.

If only I took time at the beginning
(And time is something I have plenty of)
I'd not be here alone, without him--aching
For all that could have been, and almost was.

But I know time just moves in one direction
The road he walks, like mine, is long and wide
Perhaps somewhere, sometime he will remember
That there were also happy times beside.

One day, if passions for his human cool
One day, if he can see beyond the pain
Perhaps I'll find forgiveness in his eyes
And secrets cast away, try one more time

I hope. I wait. And I will be right here.

Oh, chilling. Your Coraline is patient, and unrepentive. She took what she wanted, and will wait to get it back.

I like the dance metaphor. She misstepped badly, but she's a long-view gal. And she's right--if he stays true to his determination to never turn Beth, Coraline may someday have another chance with Mick. An older, more mature, probably much sadder Mick. Who will need comforting. ;)

Thanks for reading and commenting!

As I see it, and I know lots of folks see it differently, Coraline can be viewed in two ways--the first is someone who is frozen in her single minded pursuit only of her own wants and desiresl who turned Mick because she wanted him and for all her protests to the contrary, his desires were an afterthought; and the second, is that she learned from her mistake and came to see the error of her ways.

Do I think Coraline get Mick back?

I really doubt it. I think Beth is the real thing for Mick. But growth would be a good thing for Coraline--sometimes negative reinforcement for negative behavior produces positive results.

I tried to walk the fine line between the two so the reader could see whatever they chose.

Thank you for reading and commenting!

Coraline had the game of enticement and seduction down, all right. As Josef said, she's been a lot of things to a lot of people--most of them men. The dance metaphor just felt right.

Yeah, Jenna, as if Coraline would be so open-hearted, open-minded and mature..as if SHE could learn from turning Mick without a warnign..what she wants, she is always off to get, and will do that for eternity...and hopefully, will bump her beautiful head on a Beth wall :dizzy: .. And, you have a great poem devoted to her, tsk, tsk, tsk  ....Just kidding, I loved it, the way you wrote it, suits for those who like her, those who don't and...well, me..
Great!

Maggatha

Personally, I am a MickBether all the way.

However, I live in hope that Coraline will learn from her mistakes and grow and while I totally agree that the odds are against it, eternity is a terrible thing to waste.

Coraline is a beautiful woman and would have a lot to offer...someone else. Mick is taken (by the child Coraline kidnapped to add to their family--how's that for irony?).

I'm not a huge Coraline fan, but I gotta admire the woman's determination. This poem centered around her distorted dance -- not straightforward with her intentions, but dancing around the issue, only viewing it from what she's trying to get out of it and her partner's feelings be damned. One can only hope she learns her lesson, but probably not.

I have to agree. If we can judge the future by the past, Coraline is well and truly stuck. I'm not a huge Coraline fan, either, but you have to admire her taste.

Thanks for reading and leaving the lovely comment!

I love this look on Coraline. She had her plan, it didn't work out but she has all the time in the world

Coraline is very smart and strategic. You've done a great job of showing that here. I love the last line.

Thank you, Marigold!!

The rhythm and meter go through some odd changes, as I read it again but the truth remains that Coraline screwed up here. She wanted Mick but learned too late that she made some critical mistakes here. Did she learn from them? Here's hoping, but I don't see Mick rolling out the welcome mat for a few centuries.

I often wonder if Coraline turned Mick because she loved him and wanted him with her forever or was she selfish and manipulative thinking to keep Mick for a short time then let him go and consequences be damned.

We never got to learn about Mick's upbringing but in the line "she was my wife" I think we knew he took marriage seriously and he did love her once.

But she lost Mick early on in their relationship lust and need and self hatred (IMO) is what made him keep coming back.

Love your story/poem it sums up Coraline and her not really seeing the big picture just her little part of the world.

I agree--and think that Coraline's motives initially were a little bit of both. Every marriage starts out with hopes, plans and sometimes, like here, it just doesn't work out. Mick got one hellava wedding gift, and even though Coraline may have envisioned them facing eternity together, not giving him the choice was ultimately what pushed that marriage onto the rocks.

Love that this one is in iambic pentameter. It's not easy to do! And I do believe that, with all her faults, Coraline really did love Mick. I can see her taking a long view about his relationship with Beth. And hopefully, she will think a lot in the meantime, just in case, and curb her ruthlessness a bit.
