Interesting take on the Legion! Wonder what their reasons are behind such a rule. It seems a little irrational, which only makes it more realistic!
Definitely heartbreaking already.... and fascinating, and as always so beautifully written.
Love the ways your original ideas fit these characters so well.

The Legion's reasons will become clear, insofar as they matter, later in the story. The key thing is that they feel free to issue edicts and expect them to be obeyed. Is that something Josef can stand?

The Legion are a thoroughly unpleasant lot.
Beth is being so rational it is almost scarey. She knows that they are at the mercy of events totally outside of their control and they must take action carefully.
How heartbreaking for all concerned!

So beautifully written 
..our heroes trying to pull themselves together..I can't take Mick and Beth apart, now that they have come such a long way, how cruel to seperate them...But the shocking part is to see Josef feeling so vulnerable, as if he has no faith in himself anymore!
