Fall 1989 Re-Unification of Germany PG-13 Forgiveness Series

Post by cassysj »

I missed playing with Sarah, Anne and Charles and I even manage to get a Whiteout reference into the story.

I do not own any recognizable characters no copyright infringement is intended.

"Charles where did you come from?" Anne asked.

"My office." Charles said dryly.

"Charles! Don’t annoy me I know where my hairbrush is at. Where were you born? What’s your nationality?"

"Why?"

Anne sighed. "This must be one of your secrets. I was born in New York and I’m of German/Irish descent."

"Irish? Charles said. That must be where Sarah gets her temper."

"Charles! My husband was Scots/English so Sarah is only a little Irish."

"Can I ask why I’m getting this genealogy lesson?"

"Charles I’ve never been to Germany. I’ve been to many countries in Europe but John and I never got to Germany. Watching the re-unification on the news I really want to go."

"I think we can arrange that. You and Sarah can have a nice European trip. She hasn’t had a vacation in ages."

"Charles have you ever been to Germany?"

"Yes."

"Recently?"

"Not since the late 1700’s. I’ve lived in the U.S. since the 1830’s."

"How many countries have you lived in?"

"Several."

"Be more specific."

"All of Europe at one time or another. I’ve traveled to most of the rest of the world."

"Where haven’t you been?" Anne asked

"Antarctica."

"Charles!"

"I’m serious. I’ve never been to Antarctica. The thought of being caught in a Whiteout without donors has never been appealing to me. I'd probably go crazy and kill everyone before the winter was over."

Anne chose to ignore his Antarctic diversion. "I want you to come with us. I want to hear what things were like when you were there."

"Anne, I’ll hire you a private tour guide."

"I want you!"

Sarah walks in the study. "What do you want him for Mother?"

"I want him to take us on vacation to Germany, Austria, and Hungary."

"That’s a wonderful idea. Charles with the reunification of Germany it’s an historic time. I agree with Mother you should take us."

"How did Austria and Hungary get on the list?" Charles asked.

"Well if we’re going all that way. Anne said. You want to see a few countries."

"I’m not going to win with you ladies. I’ll take you to Germany and Austria but I draw the line at Hungary."

"Why? "Both women asked.

"Because I said so. "

"Are you Hungarian Charles?" Sarah asked.

"I bet he is. " Anne said excitedly. Maybe he was even a prince or a duke.

"I was not royalty!" He yelled

"Nobility?" Sarah guessed.

He growled "You ladies are impossible. I’ll take you on vacation but if you seen any paintings of Barons from the 1600’s I don’t want to hear about a resemblance. Are we clear on that?"

Sarah and Anne both smiled. "Yes Charles."

:clapping: A new chapter in the Charles/Sarah/Anne story! This is really fascinating & I love the thought of Josef being of Hungarian descent...and Nobility to boot! And I wonder if there will be lucky freshies that get to go on this long trip... a trip of a lifetime for them I would gather.

My background is interesting as well - German/Polish - however parents' families came over LOOOONG before WWII...

Oh, Charles, please come over to Germany!
1989 I was young and studying at University. He can come over and have a pint. I could use the money. Back then things were tight, you know.
I would gladly offer my knowledge of English to make the tour guide for Anne and Sarah. Do you want to travel along the Rhine? I know a lot about the history there.
I would need Charles to translate things, though. Back then my English wasn't that good. There was no Internet yet.

Aggie - In my mind Josef has always been Hungarian and that is from my own misunderstanding in episode one. When Josef called for his freshie and yelled Hungry! The line before that was about the torch bearing mob. I thought he was yelling Hungary as in that's where he was chased by a mob. So I took my mistake and made it his background. :snicker:

francis - I thought you would like to be a guide for Charles and Sarah. The world has changed so much in 20 years. I can't imagine life before the internet yet I was 25 before I was ever on it.

Since it's Reunification Day in Germany I'm giving this a bump.

For anyone not familiar with my Forgiveness stories they are several vignettes of the life Josef had after Sarah Whitley woke up in 1960. Josef is going by the name Charles Fitzgerald and his mortal mother in law lives with him and Sarah. It's an AU where John Whitley died in a plane crash in 1960

Ooh, I've never read this series! I'm going to use this as my excuse to do so. What a cool idea for a story. And hey, even if it was caused by misinterpreting something Josef said, why not Hungary for his country of origin? :winky:
