What a lovely idea to mix Josef's life-changing decision in with this humorous scene. It's very interesting, and it works so well!
And Josef has found the best use for vampire speed yet ... getting a picture of sunburned Mick without getting caught.... :giggle:
Great work!

Thank you so much, Shadow! I'm glad you thought it all worked together well--and I totally agree about Josef's use of vamp speed. :rolling: Poor Mick!

Another reread and this gets better every time!!! Seriously!

This is just superb at so many levels--it showcases some of the things that were so wonderful about Moonlight: you capture the easy rapport between Mick and Josef perfectly; the casual insults mixed with sage advice and a healthy dose of snark.

I think my favorite portion is this

“Sure. But you know, I’ll tell you something I learned in my 400 years—”

“—Is this going to be another monk story?” Mick interrupted.

“What, didn’t you like that one?” Josef pouted.

Mick shrugged. “Just curious. Go on.”

“A caterpillar spins a cocoon and comes out a butterfly. Does the butterfly immediately turn around and try and get back into the cocoon?” He paused a moment for dramatic effect. “No—it flies away. You can’t become a human again, Mick—at least not permanently. Maybe it’s time for you to fly away.”

“That’s deep, Josef—even for you.”
And the end was priceless. If you ever doubted the depth of their friendship, Josef chose to share it with his Sara. Lovely!

Thanks

Jenna

Shucks--thanks so much, Jenna! Glad it holds up under multiple reads, and that I had the Mick-Josef banter down. Their relationship really was most enjoyable to watch, and exactly how you described. I'm glad I could portray it successfully. And I have to admit I'm proud of the caterpillar story, so I'm glad you liked it!

Oh, what a great story! There is definitely a man behind each of those two vampires! And a great idea to mix Josef's romantic story with Mick's funny human moment! :clapping: :clapping:

What a fabulous job you did of blending these two seemingly disparate pieces seemlessly--they enhance each other.

Thank you!

My goodness! This was originally posted almost exactly three years ago and I've just read it for the first time. It was absolutely delightful! I loved your portrayals of Mick and Josef here. They may toss the banter back and forth a lot, but deep down they care about each other so much. And that's very evident here.

Light moments and serious moments in a perfect combination. Thank you both!
