Can I just mention that I'm gleefully rubbing my hands together over reading your speculation? And I will say...Josef is weighing his options. Carefully.

Thank you so much for following this story...I'm hard at work on the next installment.

Another wonderful installment, Lucky. :-)

Sometimes bravery comes from the strangest places. I guess Iris is more than just fluff, but I suppose it's to be expected from a freshie of Josef's. ;-)

So now Sally has an ace in the hole - she's armed.

I'll be most interested to see how this plays out, Lucky.

Oh Iris!!! She is even cooler than I thought... what will Josef do now? I would not want to be these gunmen!

And how all this must look to the little farm wife... oh dear!

Poor Iris. Who would have thought she had it in her? Especially knowing that Josef had a much better chance of survival than her. But then I guess she probably thought, foolishly, that her gender would be her saviour.

Great tension at the stand-off - and the pen portraits of the gang members are succinct and brilliant.

I still feel so sorry for poor, brave, foolish Iris. The indignity of death, in the middle of nowhere, is lessened by her bravery, but it is a sad end nonetheless.

Iris was so much tougher and braver than she first appeared, and that's some devotion to Josef. Of course he would inspire that ...

I really like Sally's quick-witted action at the end, and the way Roberts is just a bit unnerved by Josef.
