Re: All About Mick #8
It's so interesting to me that they decided to make the most fundamental changes to Josef.
Beth and Coraline were replaced presumably because they thought other actresses would be better - but the fundamentals of age, colouring etc. remained the same. The re-casting of Josef, however, changed the entire dynamic of one of the most important relationships in the show. By giving Josef a youthful appearance, his actual age was moved further to the background and it was much easier to see him and Mick on an equal footing.
I think Rade (with the un-spellable surname that I can't be bothered to Google) would have been wonderful as Josef - but the show would have been very different indeed.

P. S. Sorry - no pics. So you'll have to make do with spouting instead.

Yes I could! Something about his hands; they look strong but tender at the same time.wpgrace wrote:darlingcat wrote:Mick hands
GAH!!!!!!!
These are amazing!!!!!!!!!! Did you crop this DC?????
I am sooo glad you share my hand obsession!! Couldn't you just look at these for just the longest time????????
I watched Fever the other night and noticed some good hands shots. I enlarged
the cap, took a screenshot and then cropped it.
I know, I spend too much time doing that but it is worth it

Sweetie, I am not complaining...
And love the pic of the original cast Phee.... Mick is finally looking a bit more like OUR Mick, so they are inching their way there.
Beth and Cora really needed to go. They made much better casting choices the second time around.
Josef... I agree, Red, it really made the Mick/Josef relationship enjoyable to have young Jason in the role, gave Mick a buddy rather than a mentor (tho Josef, our Josef, clearly sometimes DID fulfill that role, even tho they had an agreement not to give one another advice), and made Mick seem that much strong and powerful, cause he was off and on his own by now...
It would have been interesting if the old guy had dropped in in a guest role tho, as someone who HAD at one point in time served as a mentor to Mick... to see him in the presence of a powerful wise vamp besides Josef...
Since I liked frenzied Cora's-back Mick, I'm guessing I might've liked here's-my-teacher Mick...

I have seen that Rafe last-name-all-consonants in other things before, and he is a fine actor, however, it would have drastically changed the dynamic of the show as we know it--which is probably why they made that switch. It's interesting to ponder what that difference would have entailed. And to think that we would have missed out on that wonderful Josef/Mick relationship. Josef, with all his never ending youth and hedonism and acceptance of his state---versus someone who was maybe strictly more of a mentor, ushering Mick through the stages of his vamp life. I think Josef was an exciting addition in Mick's life and the life of ML.

I think we could've gotten some nice scenes with Mick and old Josef but TPTB made the right call. What a completely different dynamic it would've been! We wouldn't have had many of the humorous scenes between the two of them. Shannyn made a much better Coraline! Alex doesn't seen to 'fit' with Amber V, but I did really like his reaction to Coraline ripping his shirt open in the original turning scene. His expression was H.O.T.!

Here ya go! MLM hooked us up again! It's too quick, but his smile is really sexy! And there's a beautifully lit chest shot afterward too! Yummy!

Pretty hot scene... wish they would've refilmed that with Shannyn... cause Amber was a bit, not intense... Thanks SisterHon....
