A Dangerous World PG-13

Post by cassysj »

Author's Note. - I'm very excited about the new season of The Handmaid's Tale, this is not really a crossover so you the only thing you need to know about The Handmaid's Tale is when the regime took over, women lost the right to work, own property, handle money from one day to the next. This story takes place the day before the United States falls and a thought on how vampires have survived so long.

I do not own any Moonlight characters, no copyright infringement is intended.

Charles and Plum were driving over to Kostan Industries.

Plum had her protective sunglasses on. “Charles, why can’t we visit Josef at a decent hour…like 10PM?”

Charles sighed. “I know you don’t like being out in the daytime but you have to build up a resistance and Josef will give you some nice B negative.”

They took the elevator up to his office. Josef’s assistant Laura escorted them inside. ‘He can only give you five.

Charles nodded. “It will be enough.”

Josef glanced up from his desk and was surprised to see both Charles and Plum.

‘Mrs. Riley, I’m surprised you’re out of your crib. Does baby want a bottle?”

“Desperately. Do you have B negative?

Josef poured a glass and Charles said. “Plum may I have a moment with Josef?

“Sure, I’ll go play with Laura.” Plum sauntered out and Josef closed the door behind her.

Charles looked very uncomfortable. “Plum would like to take Tangie on a vacation.”

Josef poured himself a drink. “Maybe in a year. Charles you know she gets twitchy in a half hour.”

“Josef, they really need to get away. I have business in Vancouver and they won’t be alone for a minute. Arthur and I will both chaperone.

“Charles, I’ve only met your “son” a few times. I’m not going to leave Tangie unprotected.”

Charles bit his lip. “Okay, we’ve known each other a long time. I’m not at liberty to give details but…..I put all my freshies on a cruise ship this morning and…I have plane tickets for myself, my wife and Tangie.”

“Is there a reason I shouldn’t be in Los Angeles tomorrow?” Josef asked.

“I wouldn’t want to be in this country tomorrow.” Charles said softly.

“How reliable is your information?”

“Extremely. My sire hasn’t lived thousands of years by getting it wrong.”

Josef nodded. He was sure that was true. “Then why haven’t the Cleaners activated the alarm?”

“Because, I'm not supposed to share this knowledge. I was told I could only take my wife and my property.”

Josef growled. “Tangie’s not your property.”

“I know, but you don’t want her here tomorrow. Charles said solemnly

“Is this….situation harmful for our kind and those who help us or is it harmful for everyone?”

Charles was on thin ice, but he had to get Tangie out. “Harmful for everyone but especially women.

Josef finished his drink in one gulp. “I’ll trust you with my fruit. I’m taking the rest of the girls on a holiday myself, tonight.

Charles agreed. “I think that’s best.”

“Mrs. Riley seems unusually calm." Josef said. "She's not known for a poker face."

“Mrs. Riley thinks this is a weekend test of her control.” Charles said. I’m not saying anything until she sees the news tomorrow.

“When she freaks out. Keep her in check.” Josef said seriously.

“I will. Charles promised “I’ll keep Tangie safe.” Charles left the office collected Plum while Josef sent Tangie a text to go on an overnight with Charles and Plum and he’d see her tomorrow.

He picked up one of his disposable phones and called Hope in New York.

Hope picked up before the second ring. “Hope Scanlon.”

“Sweetheart, it’s been too long since you’ve seen Daddy.”

Hope gasped. “Where do you want to meet?”

“At the tower.”

Hope recognized the code for Toronto. “Okay, I’ll get on the next flight.”

“How long would it take you to drive? Josef asked.

“About ten hours, but it will only take me an hour on the plane.

“I want you to bring the red dress”

“Josef….what’s going on?

“Just bring the red dress.” He hung up the phone.

Hope sighed and got the extra large garment bag. One big enough for Sarah to fit in.

Josef made one more phone call. “Mick, is Beth with you?

Oh my gosh, Carol, this is amazing! :gasp: I love the show too, and the idea of a crossover is fabulous. I can't imagine that freshies would fare well in Gilead... oy! :nosee: I hope Josef networks a bit more and makes sure that all his friends take their friends on vacation away from America. :hankie:

Soooo chilling. :brr:

Alle - No the girls would not do well in Gilead at all but vampires have managed to survive all kinds of horrible circumstances but I imagine if any of them could leave they would. I imagine Charles got his info from his sire Jonathan but he didn't tell his moody little fledgling what is going on. Plum will be upset but he has to get her out first.

Ella - Josef is taking care of his own, all that is his and that's why we won't leave Sarah behind.
