Time to say farewell...

Tonight's episode is one of the LA Times's TV highlights. I have no idea if it's a thin night, they've taken pity on the final episode, or it really does turn out to be stellar. Not long to wait to find out.

Indeed, we will find out in about an hour (on the east coast). I hope it is a good episode, showing what might have been if the show had gotten its act together sooner.

Adieu, Dr. Andy

15 minutes...

Aloha*, Andy!

Aloha*, Steve!

*From Wikipedia - Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, love, peace, compassion and mercy. Since the middle of the 19th century, it also has come to be used as an English greeting to say goodbye and hello.

I couldn't believe it when i heard it.

However, I do like the woman doctor that we haven't seen before. I could believe her being with Andy over Lisa.

Yeah, unfortunately I think she's at another hospital...in another state.

Darn! You're right.

Andy's shirt is very "Mick" isn't it?

Oh, sheesh, I see where this is going. Kuol darn well better not die on the operating table.

I agree, Lucky. I'm going to be upset if Kuol doesn't make it.

I do like this very emotional Andy, however. Flooded with irritation, desperation, anger, etc.

Okay, the storyline was contrived and over the top, but they sure finished on a nice note.

Goodbye, Dr. Andy...sorry you had to go so soon.

I thought the people who Kuol lived with in Omaha were supposed to show up. I know I read that somewhere.

I guess if this had gone another season, Andy was going to be in trouble with the police. DB Sweeney, the police detective is a big name guy.

I agree with Lucky, the story was incredibly contrived. The kid with the videocamera wouldn't have been let anywhere near the OR or some of the other places he strolled through. The only parts that felt genuine were the moments between Kuol and Andy, but even there, the intensity seemed diminished. The confrontations with Luc and with the Pittsburgh cop showed some spark, and I wish they'd brought Luc into the series sooner.

One interesting point, though. When the cop was questioning Andy in the boardroom, you could almost feel Andy shift back to the guy from Mount Washington. He was defiant, but a little scared as well. A nice shift in character.

Alfre Woodard's performance of Dr. Jordan tonight became grating, and I like Alfre Woodard, just not her interpretation of the character.

They knew they'd been canceled when they filmed this, so I found the cop threatening Andy with 'you've just made the biggest mistake of your life' kind of unnecessary, since there would be no follow through.

No closure with Rena, no sign of Lisa and what the hell became of Uncle Mike? GAH!!

Yes, that Mount Washington guy was kind of interesting! Andy got a little feisty there, didn't he? I'm trying to figure out what the police think Andy could tell them. Andy hasn't been involved with his uncle in a long time. He only met with Mike twice briefly after Mike (uh oh - Freudian slip happened. I originally typed "Mick" for Mike.) was let out of prison. Unless they just want historical data like usual contacts, fences, hideouts.

I have a major gripe about the heart transplant plot. They made the original recipient mean, and she was the patient of the less-likable doctor-rival. And then the rival refused to give the heart to Kuol. So we were supposed to be happy when she died! I found that whole storyline somewhat shockingly callous.

As for the cop and Andy... I got the impression that the cop figured Andy was still in with his uncle, and that he was probably involved somehow. I guess the cop's threat to Andy was intended to make us worry that Kuol wouldn't get a heart even if one could be found for him.
