PNWgal wrote:I love this episode...yea, even more than OOTP. This is the first episode I fell completely in love with Josef, and it's a great glimpse into Mick and Josef's relationship. From annoyance to teasing to seriousness to sorrow, the whole episode really covers the spectrum of the deep friendship of two men who really have nothing else in common, other than they're both vampires.

And I know we're not that far yet, but...I LOVED the character of Lola. Devious, cunning and beautiful, but ultimately flawed in her arrogance that a younger vamp couldn't beat her.
I also loved Lola, found her a really interesting character, enough so that I used her in a couple of my stories. It's hard to blame the arrogance though of 500 years. You have to be used to young vamps being hot headed and stupid.

I couldn't agree more. I thought Lola was a fantastic character. She lit up the screen. And yes, her arrogance brought her down. So we believed. But I would have loved for her not to be dead and come back in a future episode. *sigh*

As for Holly, I too am glad that she wasn't given a permanent character role. I don't think I could have taken her on a weakly basis. I would have been watching for the chemistry between her and Alex - way too distracting.

Come on guys, not one of you, whated to see Mick, kinda vamp out a little when Beth was seducing him, his love interest here.
This, episode shold have nailed it with the major chemistry outlet with Mick and Beth, it fell short. This whole episode was leading to a major time in Mick's and Beth's relationship , the moment Mick watched Beth walk across the street before they got in the club, the scene with Mick, protecting Beth against Lola, the male territorial thing with Josh and Mick at the club, and Beth the morning after the whole shower thing. This episode, when Moonlight was fighting for it's life, they should have went for broke on this one. In other words, year 2007, vampire loves human, human falling for vampire, (even if it was the drug, why did she not go to Josh), Mick should have gone a little more crazy with Beth. (just MOI)

ITA... she was such a fitting foil for Mick... as secure in her vampirism as Josef, and even more smug, too smug. And her disdain for the humans even more a contrast for Mick. And yet she is beautiful and elegant and fierce... just a great villain. It would have made a fantastic season 2 ep... the return of Lola! Would Josef have been concerned--due to his role in her take-down-- or delighted? Sorta a parallel to Mick's reaction when Cora showed up... what great plot possibilities!

But yes, as SS said, buzzkill to have had Holly as a show regular... Cause don't you wonder, just a little bit, if that verrrry seductive look at Club Valis was aimed at Holly, not Beth?

Beth continues her story. She waxes sarcastic and Steve calls her on it.

Image

The showcase model collapses and begins to convulse.

Image

Beth makes sure that Steve got that. Now THIS is her type of story.

Image

Medics show up and the model is pronounced dead. Beth starts her investigation and goes to talk with the mode's friend.

Image

The friend is a little pissed at first with Beth for trying to come off all friendly to get info. She remarks that Beth doesn't even know the model's name. But she does. Beth has done her homework. The model was Renee Beresford. Beth asks if the girl knows what could have happened to Renee. The friend tells Beth that they went to a couple clubs the night before and then she went home while Renee went on to another club, Club Valis. Renee hadn't come home - just showed up for the shoot in the clothes she'd worn the night before.

Image

After speaking with Renee's friend, Beth bumps into Josh and the police (including Carl) who are just walking in.

Image

Josh wants to know what she's doing there. She tells him about covering the shoot. Carl wants to know if she has video. She says she'll want it back. Carl tells her she has to leave the crime scene. Ohh! Carl should have watched his choice of words. Beth picks up on 'crime scene'. She asks how that could be and he steps even further over the ledge by telling her he won't discuss an ongoing crime scene.

Image

Beth has struck gold. Carl walks away and Josh asks Beth not to follow this story. He tells her it's the third OD in two weeks from a drug the can't identify.

Image

Carl comes back with Steve and Beth tells him to hand over the video. Does she really have much choice?

Image

When Beth and Steve are alone she asks him if he's heard of a Club Valis. *groan* So much for leaving the story alone.

I wanted to smack Josh in this scene. Did he REALLY think Beth wasn't going to follow this story just because he told her not to?

I think this episode starts to expose the first cracks we see in the Josh/Beth dynamic. I always get the sense that Josh wants Beth to be a little less independent and pushy, and that's just not her.

I always thought the kiss in AD began to expose the cracks in the Beth/Josh relationship... that's what I kept thinking when I watched this scene in BC (which I love how AD comes BEFORE BC in this series!)... she's kinda fussing at him and saying he owes her dinner... meanwhile she kinda owes him an explanation... or perhaps to begin, a confession...

Well, that's our Beth in a nutshell, isn't it? She's a compartmentalizer. :snicker: That kiss? Well, that's between her and Mick. Josh had nothing to do with it. (Yeah, right, Beth!)

Beth is determined and gallant, but she runs you right over if you're between her and a story...and she never seems to look back. She's only interested in what's coming at her, not at what's in her wake...like the flotsam and jetsam of the other watercraft she just crashed through... :gasp:

Hey, good catch on Josh in that same hands-on-the-belt pose. Hmmm, somehow...not quite the same effect... Poooooooor Josh. He always came out on the wrong side in the comparisons.

Really? I was just kidding... cause you all post all the time, Bob bless you... but if I get to pick one... and I'll pick appropriately from BC... there is a shot of him in the FOS, after he and Beth have agreed to meet in 2 hours at Club Valis... he is standing with his arms crossed as she walks out, he is biting his bottom lip and kinda-but-not-quite watching her go... It is kinda a profile shot, with his head slightly down, and you can see about down to his knees, or his thighs, some parts of leg anyway, definitely can see his waist... you know that one Red????
