Everyone heads to NY.

Martan wakes a sleeping Whitley. Whitley wants to know if Fitzgerald is dead and is told he’s not. Martan wants to know how it’s possible that he lived through the explosion.
Image

He also wants to know how the friend was able to throw him across the room with one hand. If he doesn’t get answers he’s going to kill the old man by inserting air into his tubes.
Image

Whitley tells the assassin the truth - Fitzgerald is a vampire.
Image

Martan says he doesn’t think that’s funny. Whitley replies that, no, it’s not.
Image

Martan leans in, asking how it is you kill vampires.
Image

Meanwhile, elsewhere in NY, Josef steps out of a limo...
Image

And walk up to a door where the woman who answers welcomes him and says he is expected.
Image

And still elsewhere, Beth is trying to get into the building to see Whitley but the doorman won’t let her.
Image

Mick, who is probably tired of waiting to get in, walk by them.
Image

He circles around the building, looking for another entrance.
Image

Not finding an obvious one, he does a wonderful little move - a circle-round, back, up thingy. And spies something.
Image

Beth comes around, looks up and says ‘no way’. Mick already tried the nice, ‘human’ way. Didn’t work. So....he jumps up to grab the fire escape ladder.
Image

He steps back to let Beth go first. Looks like she’s enjoying her trip to NY. :)

ooh yeah, I'm with you, Alle. There's a lot for Beth to enjoy here. She's off on a 'work' trip with the man she has unresolved sexual tension with. He's such an honorable person she can rely on him never to push a boundary she's not comfortable with, so she's free to flirt without having to sort out (at this point) any potentially messy consequences of a breach of her personal boundaries. Her trip is entirely explainable to Josh as a good reporter doing her job.

Sooo true. Beth still has it all under her control at this point (or so she thinks). The hammer has yet to fall...

Agreed. Even though the trip was absolutely plausible as 'work', she's still going to have a few sticky moments soothing Josh's feelings.

I agree. At least I think she thought so in her head. It all looked good as she reasoned it out but Josh put some cracks in that plan. When he tested it it didn't hold. Perfect example is when he asked when she intended to tell him she was going to NY. Hearing herself tell him out loud that she was going to call him from the airport? *wince* What she really needs to look at is the fact that she didn't care enough how bad it looked.

Not that I'm blaming her (so much). I'd be in NY with Mick too, watching him do the sexy jumping thing. :)

... and I'd be standing there right next to you, GA. I always thought her wince was less about discomfort at taking off to NY with Mick, and more about realising how totally inconsiderate she'd been by intending to just drop him a quick phone call from the airport rather than being a good girlfriend and letting him know in advance.

One of Whitley’s aids (maybe nurse) comes in to tell him he has visitors. He has no idea how they got in.
Image

Beth pipes up and tells him she and Mick thinks he might be in danger. The Real Estate Mogul says it’s okay, to leave them.
Image

Mick steps forward, asking if the guy hired a hitman to kill Josef Kostan. The answer is ‘no’. Beth says they have evidence.
Image

He hired someone to kill Charles Fitzgerald. Who?
Image

Image

He explains. That was the name used when he took his daughter away and murdered her. He points to the picture of his daughter, Sarah, who was 21 when the pic was taken.
Image

That was in 1955. In just a few months, she was gone. Mick catches on - that the father thinks Josef was responsible for the death of the daughter.
Image

Whitley says he knows what Josef is....a monster. Who took his daughter from him.
Image

Mick says the man better tell him all he knows about Josef so that Mick can find him before Josef finds Whitley.
Image

Whitley then directs Mick to a draw in the table. There is a diary in there. It was Sarah’s.
Image

It obviously means a lot to Whitley. His wife had kept it from him until she died two years ago.
Image

He says his Sarah was a beautiful, innocent, trusting young woman. Beth smiles at the description.
Image

He continues, saying that Sarah’s only mistake was falling for Fitzgerald who used her and exploited her love. And then killed her.
Image

Whitley says he couldn’t protect her then but he can avenge her now.
Image

Beth wants to know if that is all in the diary. Whitley gives it to her, telling her to read for herself.
Image

Mick states what is obvious - that Whitley then hired someone to find Fitzgerald and carry out that vengeance. Yes, and it took Whitely 2 yrs to find him. He can’t die until he knows ‘that monster’ still walks this earth. He starts coughing, blood in his mouth. Looks like death is near.
Image

His aid (nurse?) comes in and tells Mick and Beth they have to leave. They do. With the diary.

I always wondered if Whitley's description of Sarah was meant specifically for Beth as a warning - as in, "My daughter was a beautiful, innocent, trusting young woman like you, and a vampire killed her. Don't let the same happen to you."

(I, of course, am going on the assumption that Whitley has made the leap in logic that since Mick knows Josef, err, Charles, he must be a "monster", too.)

It's a little hard to feel sorry for Whitley. He talks about love, but I get the impression that his feelings about Sarah are more like those of Haggans for his trophy wife: she was his property, and Josef took her away from him. And I do get the feeling that Sarah's mother loved her dearly, and maybe that's why she protected Sarah from her husband. Maybe she realized that Sarah might very well still be alive... or rather undead... and that's why she kept the secret till her death.

Maybe I'm being unkind. But he blew up Josef's office! Not to mention Tim and Dan, and Josef himself. Humph!

The look on Beth's face when she hears the story of Sarah is very interesting to me. She's affected by it. She thinks it's very romantic...

Pgal, you posted while I was writing this. That's a very interesting question! I wonder if Whitley did suspect!

She's definitely affected by it...but I wonder how much of that changes when she finds out what really what happened to Sarah.

I think a lot changed for Beth when she saw Sarah frozen in time, lost 'in between'. All of a sudden, there's a dark side, danger, if you will, to the romantic notions she may be entertaining about a relationship with Mick. I think her going back to LA instead of taking advantage of a night on the town with a man she's falling for, indicates that she now realizes there's danger associated with Mick. And Josh is safe, at least until the next episode.
