I can forgive everything but the tan line.
And the red belt works because (and ONLY because, IMO) the backs of the straps of that dress are the same red patent leather. The belt actually does go with the dress.
Absolutely true, Lucky--Beth's got a closet full of slinky, tight black dresses. The one she wore to visit Mick is no less "Beth" than the red-and-black one. I think that was a misstep on the part of the writers. Now, for to say her behavior wasn't "me" makes sense. But she bought the dress...of course it's "her."
Oh well...I couldn't look at Beth anyway in that scene. It was all Mick and Lola for me. What wonderful, wonderful sparring.

Beth looked pretty---the hair and make-up. But the tan line: unforgivable error.
I was not crazy about the outfit when she entered the club with Mick---that belt and those shoes looked incredibly cheap to me. Personally, it didn't matter one bit to me, because Mick was there leaning against the wall. I don't even think I really registered Beth's outfit the first few times I watched this ep. And then in the club, when he is "blue-lit"--forget about it!! There were other people in the scene???!!

I actually thought Beth's first Club Valis outfit was better. I didn't care for the red and black or the one she wears to go seduce Mick.
I love the scene when they meet up outside the club. Especially the banter. They were both so relaxed. And I thought it made a great contrast between Beth and Lola. Especially when Beth giggles. Lola would never giggle. Beth is warm, funloving. Lola is cold and ruthless.
It was weird that Mick changed the subject so quickly when Beth asked about his jewelry. It made it seem like there was more too it but he didn't want to discuss it.

I do think Lola would giggle...but if she did, I'd be vewwy, vewwy scared. Because I'm pretty sure bad things would be about to happen.

I have always thought that Josh--angry as he was--really stepped out of line here. He knew perfectly well that if Mick was there, it was most likely he was there to aid Beth's investigation. Not to do anything illegal. And having Mick searched was an abuse of his authority. He only did it to be obnoxious.

I agree - but I confess, there was something rather sexy about angry, manhandled-Mick....

Josh' reactions in the Club had everything to do with being jealous. He didn't like seeing Beth and Mick together in the club like that. I thought the scene where Mick & Josh stared each other down was fantastic. Mick kept himself under control well and Josh was lucky that he did.

As opposed to all the not-sexy Micks! LOL! But I agree... especially since WE know, tho Josh does not, that Mick could eat Carl in a heart beat if he wanted to...
And yes I love the stare down with Josh... Mick has started thinking maybe he and Beth have a chance... and he's begun to allow himself impure thoughts... so he's not backing down and showing Josh deference, like he did at the beginning of AD...
Tho ya gotta give Josh some slack here too... Beth WAS dressed rather trampily and HE knew nothing about it, yet not only did Mick know why Beth was here, Mick was here with her... Josh may logically think she's working a story, but wouldn't he ALSO worry that Mick was working her? And then, referring back above, when Mick DOES stare him down like that... it was a challenging stare... he had to know Mick was taking the gloves off... they were pitted against one another with Beth as the spoils at that point...

I couldn't blame Josh one wit for doing what he did. Yes, it was a abuse of his authority because he knew Mick wasn't involved with the criminal element in the club. He was there for his own investigation or he was helping Beth. But that stare down said a lot. Mick's look was kinda 'don't talk to her that way - you're going to lose her' and 'yeah, I'm here, what are you gonna do about it?'. All this after Beth was making it obvious she was attracted to Mick and he'd asked her not to follow this story. He had to be about to burst.
It was Carl that I was surprised at. He seemed to like roughing Mick up a bit. I know he's friends with Josh but Mick hadn't done anything to him.

Is there anything you say that I
don't agree with?
I personally liked seeing Josh upset--he really didn't display all that much emotion towards Beth, which I am sure is yet another reason she would fall for the tall, hot, brooding vamp--who she has
seen display anger and emotion.
Think back to all the little chaste, almost boring kisses between Josh and Beth. Josh always seemed bland, which was an appropriate character point, given that it just amplified the differences between him and Mick. Because, Beth knows what an angry vamp looks like, acts like. Plus, he can do the sexy sniffing and jumping thing.....

And Beth's an adrenaline junkie. Which is part of her attraction to Mick. Long before she falls in love with him I think she was caught by the rush of excitement he brought to her life. He's drop dead gorgeous, a challenge, forbidden and dangerous. In comparison, Josh is a bore.

Without a doubt. There is no comparison, and no competition when you are up against someone so alluring as Mick is.
And getting back to the Carl thing--and his 'issue' with Mick. I always saw that as two-fold, he was a friend of Josh's, so that would explain one aspect of his possible dislike of Mick. And, I always thought that Carl had a 'sense' concerning Mick that something just wasn't quite right.
Plus, Mick was very much like Beth--showing up at crime scenes and trying to get info when Carl didn't want either or them around.
(guess it was more 3-fold, huh?)

Plus Carl had been really snarky with BEth when they showed up at the dead-model shoot, so I think both Josh and Carl, aside from finding Mick a sudden and lingering intrusion in their usual little 3-some with Beth, were both kinda freaking about the black crystal case... as you recall, it just wasn't coming together for them....
But the Mick Stare Down did Josh in... forever after that... they were never very friendly again... not that we much saw them together after that until Sleeping Beauty--definitely not friendly-- and the LLF... friendly only in a really I either gotta be polite or punch you now kinda way...

Considering the crap that Josh had to put up with and how "understanding" he usually was of Beth's work and involvement with Mick, I definitely cut him some slack in this scene. So what? He had Mick searched. He didn't throw his perfect arse in jail. He asked that mick be searched. I didn't think it was terribly out of line. Carl pushing him around was more of an abuse than anything Josh did.
