He told her? He actually did? I thought something like this would never happen.. And then what, allegrita? Did she faint in his arms on that couch? or, what? You always keep me hanging on with my eyes wide waiting...

Yeah... he told her. And I don't know what she did... maybe she did faint from happiness. 'Cause... well, I know I'd probably faint...
Beth and Mick are both such damaged souls. I love them both and I really, really love them together. They help heal each other, I think. And Beth needs to know that she really is THAT important to him. She keeps him going. What woman wouldn't want to hear that sentiment... from her darling vampire?

This was beautiful, Allegrita!
The beginning of this story was wonderful. The conversation felt completely natural. It was so nice to see Mick and Beth spending some quiet time together.
I love the comparison of the fireplace to Mick's self-control and urges. "Fire and ice" is a perfect way to describe him.
“Beth, do you know the real answer to why I go on living?” Mick asked gently.
She twisted around to look up into his face, and he kissed the corner of her mouth.
“You make me want to.”

It's about time, Mick!
Thank you!

Aww... thanks, Marigold.

It was pretty early on, while the series was still on the air, that I got the idea of the fireplace being a metaphor for Mick's battle to stay as human as he could be. Aside from the very end of the story (because darn it, that guy needs to tell Beth these things!), my favorite part is the description of the fire sneaking through the cracks in the ice over and over. I see Mick as constantly having to guard against those urges, constantly be careful not to give in. Especially when he's around people he cares about. Then he builds up the ice extra carefully.

Alle thank you Beth needed to know that Mick needs her as much as she needs him.
