Very nice. IMHO, it's the mark of a gifted writer to be able to take a scene that's so familiar and been thought about and discusseed often, and breath new life into it, making it fresh again as if we're seeing it for the first time. You have accomplished this. :clapping: :notworthy:

You did a beautiful presentation of this most important scene. The more important he becomes to her, the more he wants to disappear from her life. They should have been able to communicate at this important juncture, but Mick wasn't willing to take in more than would be right for Beth. He wouldn't realize that it was already too late to pull back. Thank you for this.

And for most of us, it never was.

Red~what you've written here is exquisite and captures the scene fabulously. It's right there with Lilly's Fraternity as the ultimate in getting inside the charater in on of our most loved scenes.

I thank you!

This is an insightful and enlightening. You know, as often as I watch that scene I'm so wrapped up on Mick and his dying and self-loathing I barely think much about how Beth is feeling. Well, past her just not wanting him to die and nervous about having him feed from her. But this goes so much deeper.
I offer myself to him and watch the horror spread across his sickly face. He is appalled, disgusted at what he must do to survive.
Pretty ironic, isn't it? She should be appalled at the idea of feeding a vampire but she's okay with it - whatever keeps him alive. And he, who should be more worried about staying alive, is appalled. But it's hard to deny the vamp when it's sucking on her arm.

Motels on the mind, Red? Do tell.

Mick may be top of the food chain, but Beth is the stronger of the two. Mick is resigned to death; Beth is determined that he will live.
He needs me and for the first time I understand what it means to save a life.
Women are caregivers; nothing is harder to resist that someone who needs them. And she can save him - she WANTS to save him as much as he dreads her doing so.
He pierces me, a growl, a sharp jag of pain. Drawing in close, he turns, pulling, hiding as he suckles.
Even in his need, he still hides.

Just lovely, my friend.

catmoon, mitzie, thank you both ;).

Penina, I agree - Mick is so overcome with his own feelings and so determined that Beth will be safer without him. But it's far too late for that now. Far too late.

Trixie, I'm very flattered by the comparison with Lilly's wonderful piece. Thank you so much.

GA, LOL! Hard to deny indeed. To me, she's always been the strong one (until Sonata  ). As for motels - I just meant our little holiday home :D.

PNWgal, oh yes - absolutely. She has the strength to save him - he just needs to find the strength to think he deserves to be saved - and that takes him a while.

I was just meandering the boards and found this. It's fabulous. I love Beth's strength in this and like most others who posted, this is my favorite line:
