Yay! A new story by Lucky!! Sorry that I missed this yesterday.

Iris seems to be just a tad high maintenance and whiney. However is Josef going to manage being in a coach for days without resting someplace cool? I like Sally. She seems a very straight forward, no nonsense kind of gal. I'm really looking forward to more!

Please add me to your PM list.

I've sadly been neglecting my fanfic of late, but I'm so excited for this one! :yahoo: We finally get some backstory on Slade. I love the Old West period, and this one should definitely be interesting!

I can just picture Josef dressed in the old western style... :thud:

While I'm at it--add me to your PM list please!

Lucky, I neglected this story before, but now I'm gobbling it up on the way to chapter 2. I love the scene you've set already. I haven't yet read La Posada, so I don't know anything about Slade--should I read La Posada first?

Of course, I'm not gonna be able to stop myself now that I've started... eek...

OK... you've got me going already Josef is amazing, ever the gentleman, able to charm even a very proper young woman into talking with him, and even closing the shade for him, despite her morning sickness. Josef does inspire that sense of giving in the ladies, doesn't he?

Slade is a little bit worrisome...and why IS he pretending to be drunk?!

Iris is just awful. I hope she's delicious...because she ain't sweet. :snicker: And I hope she's filling too, because Sally's gotta be off limits since she's expecting. I'm a bit worried for Sally, considering the varmints lurking about... and I imagine she's going to have some questions about the wrist bites... eek...

OK, I can't stand it, I'm off to read Chapter 2.

Alle, well I think this one doesn't require any prior knowledge of Slade, although I do hope you'll read La Posada at some point.

Glad you're enjoying the setting, and you'll just have to wait and see what Slade is up to, and what becomes of him...

Well, some people think Texas is the most "Western" state. I'm in AZ, buckeroos. In an old George Burns and Gracie Allen show, Gracie said they've never been West. He said they were in CA. You can't get much more west than that. She said CA wasn't West compared to AZ and TX. I got the name Slade as familiar, but was reading too fast to make the connection. Since I began with chapter 5, I will say no more, but go on to chapter 2. You know I love historical fiction, but mine goes way, way back before ancient Greece was born. Penina

What a wonderful start, Lucky. Scene perfectly set - I could feel the discomfort of the stage and the grime of the bunkhouse.

And this,
librarian_7 wrote:“Offhand, Iris, my dear,” Josef replied, “I’d say until we get there.”
was just perfect.

“Josef,” she complained, “how long do we have to put up with this?”

“Offhand, Iris, my dear,” Josef replied, “I’d say until we get there.”
:rolling:

And Slade! :confused2: That man set my teeth on edge in La Posada and nothing has changed...
