It is a real tribute to his acting abililty that the very first impression of Mick/Alex was not how gorgeous he was.

And he certainly is that.

Ain't that the truth, jen. When I first saw the promos for Moonlight, I thought, "pretty face, no big deal. ANOTHER vampire PI?!?"

Then I watched the show. And it wasn't the bare chest or even the eyelashes. It was the soul of Mick St. John shining through. My god, what a wonderful character he is.

Oh so true!

It was his eyes, his voice, the depth of his feelings (Mick's I mean)... all that passion just beneath the surface for Mick... Alex portrayed that soooooooo well.

Have to agree with all of you about the magic of the character Mick St. John. During the first moments of TNSTAV, when he's doing the 'interview', I will admit my first thoughts were along the lines of 'good looking guy, good personality', but when they shifted to his real conditions, and he describes just how lonely his existence is, the 'good looking guy' became more of a character you could empathize with. In the space of 10 minutes, after we're introduced to Beth and Josef, I was hooked. But it was the character of Mick that brought it all together.

I remember thinking at the end of NSTAV when Mick puts his hand out to help Beth up and the voice over says "Sixty years is a long time to deny yourself the touch of another. But you do it because you just can't bear the thought of seeing yourself as a monster in someone else's eyes." and Beth hugs him, that I was essentially seeing the plot for the rest of the season.

That's when I got hooked.

ABSOLUTELY! I know some people say they don't like the first episode but this 30 seconds is the heart and soul of all 16 episodes. Mick trying to be cool. Beth coming into his personal space, pushing him. Mick being hesitant and then giving in and hugging (loving) her back. Ahhhh!

I love that scene... There's so much power and meaning in that seemingly simple hug. It says so much about both of their personalities, doesn't it? And it's the perfect use of Mick's voiceover. That velvet-gravel voice, saying just the perfect words to capture a huge theme.

I love Moonlight... and I love Mick...
