The camera guys on ML knew how to light and shoot Alex...

I think they are trying on 3R to shoot Alex really pretty too... but they are not quite as adept as on ML... they come across as too obvious and too forced on 3R (not that I am complaining... every shot of Alex is a keeper for me ), whereas on ML, it just looked like he was radiating his own light...

Truly that camera crew on that show shoulda gotten some sort of award. Should Alex end up with a big deal career, he owes some of it to them...

I totally agree (and written so eloquently, too! ) It was Kismet! I don't think it was a conscious decision on ML to shoot Alex/Mick as pretty, and I think therein lies the difference. The noir intent did wonders for Mick as character- he wasn't just glossy. The light and shade gave him substance and depth.
