Well, I'm a little late to the party but I have to agree with Red and Pinkie and anyone else who said it.
I love this thread.

Mick was collecting baggage long before he found Coraline, and he's always willing
to take the blame and responsibility for any hurt or possibility of hurt to any one else.

He seems to follow his heart and when it shatters, he can't seem to figure out why.
Yet he continues to wear it on his sleeve, hoping that someone will love him and accept
him the way he is. Someone will be willing to actually look long enough to see who
he is.

Riley, ITA. And that's why we love him, right? And also why, for me anyway, there are times when I want to shake some sense into him. No-one should have to bear that heavy a load....
