April 22, 2008 - What stands out to me.

Once year ago at this time, we were getting ready to go stand in line at Paley. There was also a Moonlight Blood Drive going on just inside Paley. Once there, we made signs to advertise the Blood Drive. We hit on people just walking the street to come in and give blood. And believe it or not, we got some takers! We would go to the local restraunts for breakfast and then lunch, or to go to the bathroom. GinaJas was taking pics of the cast to the nearby CVS to get enlargements on the off chance we could meet the cast and get autographs. Seeing Russell Crowe walk by with his children, the youngest in a baby stroller. He was reading our signs and had to know that we were talking about fellow Aussie Alex. The second time he walked by, someone said Susan, don't look now but Russell Crowe is right behind you! I turned quickly and damn, the man was right in front of me! Not 1 foot away! He was reading the signs again and when I spun around, he smiled at me. I was struck dumb! Had no clue what to say! As he began to walk away, I sort of said "Come on Russell, help a brother out!" Obviously a reference to them being from the same country! LOL And I couldn't believe I had just asked Russell Crowe to give blood! He must of heard me, cuz he turned around and smiled a me again, though he kept on walking. A few blocks away, there was this huge traffic jam. Found out later that it was Britney Spears. A few of the ML fans actullly saw her. Eh, not much of a Britney fan here!

We stood in line for hours and hours, just to get a front row seat. And lucky me, when we were allowed into the building, I was in the very front row of people. We sat in the 2nd row, as the 1st row in the small threatre was reserved for the press and a few lucky "winners" of tickets from local radio stations.

When the cast came out, we were in heaven! Great panel with Kristen moderating, but the best was when we were allowed to ask a few questions. The cast was floored when they realized how far everyone had come to see them. A few even came from overseas. Everyone was upbeat and there was no sadness, as everyone there honestly believed that Moonlight was a shoo-in for a second season. Looking back, I'm so glad we didn't know, cuz I remember how bittersweet it was for all of us to get together the very next month for the Con, knowing that Moonlight had been cancelled.

We got to see the premiere of "Fated to Pretend" at the end of the panel. And it was so cute to see Sophia try to stick around and see our reactions to the episode. A few of us ran outside the theatre, hoping to get to see or talk to the cast. Unfortunately, they were being taken back to the set to finish up work on the last episode. So they couldn't stay and hang out with their fans. A lot of people were very upset by this, but while I was a bit sad, I understood. I was just over-the-moon happy to have gotten the chance to be so close to the cast, to see them up close and personal. Especially Alex. OMB! When he walked out, I couldn't seem to take my eyes off of him. It was like that for the rest of the evening. My cheeks actually hurt after everything was over and I realized that they were sore from so much smiling and laughing! Its a day that I will remember in detail for many years to come. Meeting all my Moonlight friends, hanging out for a couple of days, seeing the FoS for the first time, well I will cherish the memories forever!

*hangs head low* No...but whole bunch who I know went...like SuzeQ and GM and I got the scoop on what Alex said.
It was an amazing experience and I was gulping down all what I heard, about his POV on where he saw ML going..

Now..I still have a hard time with these shots. Now that I know...that he's got a chance with a series and a movie, that helps.

He looked incredible that day, his face, his gestures...that was the golden day for ML fans..
I went to the CON that May and we squeed over the pics...

Oh Susan! What a nice job detailing your experience for us... and THANK YOU so much for letting us experience it vicariously...

Can you believe it that I haven't seen those videos of the interviews yet? I read a transcript when it happened but I never saw them. Thank you sooooo much, darlingcat!!! To think how excited they all were and how much they loved to work with each other. And Sophia was very aware that the wig was hideous, she wanted the producers to let her go with the crop. Good taste, girl! Alex and Jason are such genuine nice guys. Jason's part is much longer, I guess he wasn't in demand so much and Kristen knew him from before, they chatted like friends. And he was so proud of FtP, rightfully so. And I cracked up about Brian White calling Alex the Hunk/Stud, with a slash, not with a hyphen. He was very impressed with the blood drive, too.
It's bittersweet to see them like this knowing they were cancelled only a few short weeks later.

Kristen sat next to me before the panel started. She mentioned that she and met Jason during Veronica Mars and said that "we're friends", so I definitely got the impression the two of them knew each other and were definitely friends. Sophia was glowing! She looked so beautiful. And Jason, while very quiet most of the time when not answering questions, was joking around with Alex. You could tell that this cast had great chemisty. I don't think we ever figured out why Shannyn wasn't there. I know that at that point in filming, her character was "gone" to parts unknown, so perhaps she was off doing something else. Those clips, it was funny to watch Alex to be so careful in his answers, especially when he was asked by Kristen who Mick loved. He knew his fanbase. He knew that there were MickBeth shippers, and MickCora shippers, so he gave the politically correct answer. Too funny!

The Alex pics at Paley are absolutely gorgeous. Susan did a great job of recounting the day. While I didn't have the opportunity to meet Kristen, the only thing I wanted to add that I remember was when a number of us were staring through a large window trying to get a glimpse of Alex while we were still waiting in line, Alex came up to the window. I had been wearing a Alex Moonlight button which someone in DC had made, and I think he noticed it. Or maybe that was wishful thinking. Anyway, I think he pointed at it and smiled and then noticing us all, he starting clawing (not sure how else to describe it) at the window like he was an animal being watched at the zoo. While a window pane separated us, he was so close, that in itself made the 6 hour flight to LA worthwhile. We all had such high hopes then. Thanks again Susan and those who posted pics and the Youtube interviews.

That was me! LMAO!! I remember being shocked that it was Russell Friggin' Crowe walking down the street. He was walking pretty slow and when he passed our line, some photographer ran after him.

I remember someone saying that Britney Spears was down the street. On my flight to L.A., in first class, was Cheech Marin. My mom was SO mad at me for not asking him for a photo, but I just didn't want to bother him, ya know. Plus, he had on sunglasses the entire time, so while I'm 99.9% sure it was him, there is that .1% that doubted and I would have felt so stupid if it hadn't been him. LOL

I really enjoyed reading your reports from the Plaey, ladies!
I appreciate your letting the less fortunate of us share the experience. I guess it is still vivid in your memory.
I have saved similar reports from other fans over this past year and will, with your permission, add yours to my file.

My good friend Raven, who saw Alex at the NYComicCon, told me that he "had an aura around him, nothing weird but everyone was drawn to him". Did you feel the same way, sussie, lucky, wondergirl, moonlightsonata?
Was the "IT" factor that jumps off the screen with him in person?

Adore those photos of him looking through the window at the fans. Just unbridled happiness he is exuding. Can't wait to see him like that again!

It's hard to explain, but yes, he has this way about him....an energy. I've met Justin Guarini (runner-up on the first American Idol) a few times and he is the same way. You are drawn to them like a moth to a flame.

Alex had this excitement, like he was in utter awe of the audience reaction. I remember how intently he'd listen when people were talking or asking him something.
