Soooo.... I used a phrase that Lucky liked in describing Darkstarrising's fic recently... "between the fire and the fountain"... as Dark's fic took place when Beth was little but before she and Mick met again whatever...

And I was thinking about what Coraline might have been doing between the fire and the fountain... I mean we have some clue what Mick did and what Josef did and what Beth did... but what did Cora do? And frankly, she had the worst of it... I mean we know from The Ringer that it hurt to burn... interesting to ponder what happened before she assumed the persona of Morgan and started snapping pics of MickBeth...

Just thinking... nothing to offer... which is typical... but it's an interesting question... and could have some bearing on where she went when Lance took her too... :mdrama:

That is an interesting thought. How long did it take her to recover? You know what would be an interesting story. Right after the fire, Coraline manages to crawl away and gets in touch with Cynthia. How long does it take her to recover? What is she thinking those first days, weeks. How much does Cynthia hate Mick?

That last question surely answers some of why their little encounter at the hotel was so very warm and loving, doesn't it??? :giggle:

Those are the same thoughts that I have had. Which have inspired my Cora muse to be active at times. (Not trying to self promote or anything. )That is why I so love the character of Coraline, the writers left so much of her story out, that we can fill it with our own ideas and thoughts. Which IMO makes her more endearing to me anyway.

You are welcome to promote any Cora fics or Cora thoughts you have here, Em! We're by definition interested...

It's true they didn't give us much to know about her... tho we do get hints here and there...

I find it interesting how much thought most of us have put into her, even those of us who do not write... whereas for most of the fandom, they put very little thought into her, her background, her motivations, etc...

Cause to me, once you DO think about it, she automatically becomes more sympathetic and quite intriguing... Mick certainly thought her so...

So very true! It's perplexing to me why some choose to see her and write her off as a pure evil, one-dimensional character. As you said, Mick certainly saw a lot more to her and was intrigued and invested of himself in her for many years after the turning. If she weren't layered and have a lot to offer in their relationship, what would that say about him?

Exactly! What does it say about Mick? Basically that he was a superficial man, easily manipulated with questionable taste in women (if we go by the assumption that Cora is nothing but evil). So in turn, what does that say about Beth and that relationship? Was he just dazzled by the blondeness, the way she manipulated him and had him wrapped around her pinky and that he liked to be controlled?

I've said it once and I'll keep saying it, the writers did a HUGE disservice to the stryline by NOT delving into that relationship further. Instead they caved in to bad judgement by rushing the MickBeth relationship. And judging by the diminishing ratings in the last 3 episodes, it was to the series detriment to do so. Yes, we all knew that Mick and Beth were going to end up together in some capacity. The writing was on the wall. But to basically kill off the competition (Josh's death in LLF and Cora's staking and removal in TMC) so that there were no more evident barriers was just a cheap and easy way out. Bad, bad writing. I guess this is what happens when you go through 5 showrunners in 16 episodes. :confusing:

Please forgive me wandering off on a self-promotional tangent.

I got so tired of Cora being called an evil :beep: that in Happy Rebirthday, ch 1, after Beth called Coraline a very nasty name, [unsuitable for the PG-13 part of the board], Emma asks Beth why she has so little respect for Mick. Every time Coraline is accused of being purely evil with no redeeming characteristics, it's also an insult to our beloved Mick, who after all, married the lady and stayed married to her for 33 yrs.

You guys make an excellent point! To assume Cora has so few redeeming qualities is to diss Mick... and SS, the writers DID take an easy way out and ratings didn't hold up... Mr. Skulk in the Shadows was a better version of Mick and after TMC set up such a cool storyline... to drop it was literally a life and death... and turned out to be death... decision.

I agree... Cora had some intense faults, but that's where the intrigue comes in for me... what had she already lived thru and survived in order to get to California and the 1950s and what must have been incredible liberty for her? And her biggest fault is that she thought being a vamp was a good thing and that her randy and super cool new husband would agree. And she is far more like Josef than anyone wants to admit in terms of how she views humans... he gets away with the tar pits cause of his sense of humor... she's just not as glib with a joke.

Beth also had faults, one of them being that she thought her less-randy but super nice boyfriend would also agree that being a vampire was a good thing. But she didn't have the power to turn him herself... and then had a hissy fit when the reluctant vampire who she tried to bully into the turning ( and who Cora so "evilly" had turned) reminded her that HE didn't think it was such a good thing and then withstood her malice and disapproval in order to remain true to himself.

But if it was so evil for Cora to choose for Mick... why was it not also wrong for Beth to choose for Josh? And neither of them ever paid any attention to what Mick wanted... but he is always the hero... to me he is always right. (Except that he totally lied to Beth in FdL about being busted fresh outta the shower... but hey... he's a guy.)

Thank you  I was trying to capture the intensity of the MickCora relationship. I think I might have forgotten to include the name of the Song and Artist on the post though....it's Do you Love Me? by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Hey sisters! I'm enjoying reading your thoughts and wholeheartedly agree, although I have nothing to add at this moment as I'm nursing a muscle relaxer hangover. :? Well, I do have this awesome cap to add...
