Very interesting stuff, Susie.
And most serial killers also take a bit of something from the victim--whether it be a piece of clothing, or in Vincent's case--perhaps pix or video of the act itself.

I think for Vincent, the tape is his "trophy". I can't see him actually taking something personal off of the victim. Wouldn't fit his profile, me thinks. But then again I'm no expert in this stuff so it could be that he would take a trophy off of his victim. I think not only because this type of killer is usually remorseful after the killing. Not that they have a concious like you and I, cuz if they did they wouldn't kill in the first place, but I just don't see Vincent wanting to have a personal reminder laying around that would remind him of something he's most likely ashamed off, even though he can't seem to stop himself and he will kill again.

Susie, you will have to add Vincent to your banner!

The "sexual" was just thrown in by the BAU to
define what category of psychopath Vincent really fits in for the audience to better understand.
And I think he tapes the murders as thats how he, as a sexual psychopath, can go back and relive the experience. The problem is that with each viewing, the tapes become less and less satisfying, thus he kills more and more, usually culminating in him getting caught. He would also most likely become more violent and less careful with each kill. Sort of spazzing out and being more violent/crazy with his control slipping away with each episodic break.
For Vincent to be reaching out to the BAU for help says a lot. Its very rare. This type of killer rarely communicates with the press or law enforcement. Unlike those killers that seek self-gratification and recognition, Vincent's type never does. They cannot control their impulses to kill, and they perceive this as a weakness and don't won't anyone to know about it. There's enough conciousness left in Vincent for him to want to stop. He knows he can't do it himself, that someone will have to stop him. His type, if caught alive, often say in interviews that they were tormented and really didn't want to kill, but they somehow can't stop themselves.
Sorry the the Psycho 101 lesson, but believe me I have no degrees or any higher level of education on this stuff. Mine, unfortunately, comes from on the job experience.

Actually I am grateful for the lesson,
Susan... thank you for helping us to understand what he's doing. If Alex weren't playing one, this would just be too much for me... but I am fascinated now... and he probably had someone like you go over this stuff with him, don't you reckon? Interesting that his "type" is doing something unusual here. And I will say, the way you describe this... pretty d@mn frightening... not at all cute. I think he's gonna shock us a bit, don't you???

I agree, Susan, that the tape is his trophy, definitely. Isn't it interesting how these types of criminals have such a need to have a memento from their crimes? Usually that is the thing that gets them caught.
For instance, look at that Craig's List Killer----he was collecting stockings and panties from the victims. I mean, that is hard evidence right there. I guess the compulsion overrides them and the risky behavior is what fuels them. One would think that if you went to that much trouble to plan and commit a crime, that you would keep no evidence of it to point to you later.

Grace I think you are right - this is going to scare us. He is going to do the psychopath role so well. I'm still going to find him cute though - I can't help it, it's the glasses.

I prefer to think of him as the psychopath with a heart of gold.

I agree. The tape is what he watches over and over; reliving the kill for sexual gratification. Then, the tape loses its excitement so he must make a new one. He has a type (blondes) but when he has to kill a friend who doesn't even fit his type; that throws him a curve and scares him into wanting to stop. My degree in forensic psychology: non-existent!

We'll see... but at the first, I think he's just gonna scare us sh!tless...
That's ok... Mick wasn't a very scary vampire... it's time he played a scary role... I imagine it's kinda fun... tho the research for this one woulda sucked...
And that whole "walking in the character's shoes... " thing woulda made him not too fun to be around I would think...

Heads-up, everyone.
President Obama has announced a primetime press conference next Wednesday 29th, his 100th day in office. As soon as timings/coverage/scheduling are confirmed I'll post here (or someone will beat me to it

).
