Moonlight's Seventeenth Anniversary - Sept. 28, 2024
It's our 17th Moonlight-versary!!
Can you believe it?? Honestly, if you'd asked me 17 years ago if I'd be running a fan forum for that cool new vampire show that I really liked? I'd have laughed in your face. I'd have said, "Oh, come ON! I've got a brand-new granddaughter, my work schedule is insane, I've got elderly parents and in-laws to worry about. There's no way I'd get sucked into something like that!"
Well, life throws you a curve ball sometimes. And here I am, and here you are, and I have absolutely no regrets. In fact, the friends I've made on this forum have seen me through losing both of my parents and both in-laws. They've helped me celebrate the joys of grandparenthood and the worries of everyday life. You helped me deal with both times I busted my arm, you cheered me on when I went to Burning Man and took my trips abroad (I even got to meet some of my Moonlight friends in England! ). You are the only ones who understand me when I get misty-eyed over something that reminds me of Our Little Show. I guess I always will do that. Seventeen years is a pretty long time to develop a habit, and loving Moonlight is a habit I don't feel like trying to break.
Happy anniversary, everyone. I'm awfully glad I know you, and I love being in this virtual home with you.
Love,
Alle

Happy Anniversary to Moonlight. I have to thank my sister for reading in TV Guide and said I think this show is for you. It was the first time I found fan boards while a show was currently on, I'd always been a Jane come lately. It has been wonderful the friends I have made in this fandom been lucky enough to meet some of them and have met three out of the four leads. I've never met Alex but have been in the room with him at NY Comic Con. This board means so much to me and so does this little show.

I never remember the September anniversary for some reason....but it looks like this is the perfect time to come back here! I remember so well how I found out about the show. A close friend of mine told me about it....(ha, she was sure I would love it, and how right she was!) I'd missed the first episode, but by some miracle, the local network reran the first episode in the same week, so I watched and recorded and went on to the second episode and never looked back. Plus I shared the favor with another close friend I was sure would love the show, so even before I discovered fan sites existed, I got to have lots of discussions about it.
I'm sad to have been gone for so long. It was due to a terrible case of long covid that left me unable to sleep or think or do much of anything at all. I ended up having to retire....high time anyway!....and then, with an "experimental" treatment, I suddenly got well enough that I decided to go to the World Science Fiction convention in Glasgow this August. I had a truly amazingly fabulous time there....unbelievably good....and then the rest of my Scotland blowout retirement vacation that I had planned for after the convention went a bit sideways. Short version is, I wasn't nearly as recovered as I thought I was, and I just got out of hospital in Edinburgh after a 3 week stay. I just got back home, with the much-needed help of my beloved niece and nephew. And since I'm actually doing some sleeping now, and I'm hoping to start thinking again soon, I found my bookmark and came back. On the 17th anniversary!

Oh my gosh, Shadow! I'm so, so sorry you've been so sick! Please get lots of rest and I hope you'll be feeling much better soon. Medic Mick will keep an eye on you while you recover.

Re: Moonlight's Seventeenth Anniversary - Sept. 28, 2024
I do bless my niece and nephew! They are the best kids ever, and they somehow managed to get me on a nice comfortable plane in business class....with both of them there to help me..... immediately after I got discharged. Will had to get back to his very pregnant wife (I have a grandnephew on the way!) but Margie took me to doctor appointments, paid all my overdue bills, and got me properly settled before heading home. Plus I need to bless my petsitter Emma, who took care of my pups for almost a month longer than planned, and is still helping me around the house.
And speaking of Medic Mick taking care of me (omg!! his eyelashes in that picture! )....I had two extremely good doctors in Edinburgh, who worked as a team. One was an older fellow and the other was very young, like mid twenties. They were both compassionate, thoughtful good listeners who came up with good plans of action. And..... the young doctor happened to look stunningly like a younger version of Mick.
I tried my best to not let that influence my opinion of him. After all, just because someone looks very much like a dazzling young Alex, that does not necessarily make him a good doctor. Nor does having a gorgeous Scottish accent. But luckily for me, he really was a good doctor. Both of them were. (Oh....and when we asked about payment, considering that I'd never paid any taxes into the system, they said they didn't even have a way to collect money, so there would, of course, be no charge for the 3 weeks of care.)
Hmm, I think this may have strayed a bit from the 17th anniversary topic. But to tie this message back in, having this particular doctor took my thoughts right back to the Moonlight world, and from there to this wonderful site. I'd given the kids my phone when I checked in, because I didn't want to risk losing it, but I did find myself really wanting to come here. And who knows how, when or if this will go, but ....I also started writing a new Moonlight story while I while I was in the hospital.

Oh my gosh, your doctor looked like Mick?! And bless their national health system! I'm really glad your sweet family took such good care of you, and that your lovely pet sitter helped you so much. It says a lot about you that you are loved by such great people.
As for the story, I will leave chocolate for your muse and do a lot of this:
Mostly, I'm glad you're home, and hopefully on the road to good health.

Thank you, Alle! Any muse of mine should certainly respond well to chocolate!
So far I have managed to at least find all the story pages I'd already handwritten. Which I think is a pretty good start, considering I haven't gotten my bags unpacked yet.
And yes, my doctor really did look that much like Mick. Right down to the you can trust me to do my best for you
look in his eyes. I wish I could have kept both of the doctors I had!
