A former Navy Seal is turned and Josef gives him a job as a Security Chief.


Kevin Hawthorne was pissed!! Hell, he'd been pissed most of his life, which is why he decided to join the Navy Seals right after graduating from high school, and he had done so well for himself. He breezed through the grueling initiation and had he not been so angry for growing up poor with no real future, he never would have made it through the initiation at all. But his anger has fueled his every move in life. And when he was sent to do some recon in Afghanistan, he knew he had found his calling. So, six years later, he finally leaves the base to attend his older sister's funeral in Los Angeles, and some shithead vampire had sunk their fangs into him. But not only did she take his blood but gave him her own as well, thus turning him into filthy vampire! He had heard that when vampires turn a mortal, they had to stay with that newbie vamp and teach them how to survive. But the beautiful woman that took his life, told him only one thing. Stay out of the sun and sleep somewhere abandoned. That was it and she was gone. So, everything he learned was through trial and error. Lots and lots of error. Thanks to his military training, he had the willpower to not succumb to the dark allure of being a creature of the night. And he also discovered that he could do something very unusual. He could change his appearance. Like legit become another person. Like for real, another person. He turned himself into a black man for 1 day and saw firsthand how poorly blacks were treated so whenever he saw some asshole talking shit about black people, they always met with hasty end.

He was still upset about how the military treated him after he was turned. He told them the truth, but he was handed discharge papers right after. He could have been their own personal Super Soldier, but he could tell they wanted him far away, so he survived as bouncer for a while, but was really tired of that whole scene and wanted something a bit more upscale, so when he heard of Kostan Towers hiring a top-level Security Chief, he applied immediately.

He sat at the long cherry wood table with a guy who looked no more than 18 years old.
"So why did you leave the military? Anyone with credentials like this could have gone anywhere" Brian said looking at his resume.
"I was on leave and coming home to attend my sister's funeral and some woman decided to make a meal out of me. The Navy wasn't too happy to have a vampire on the Seal team" he explained. Brian shook his head slowly. He felt bad for the guy, who had his whole life snatched away by some careless vamp.

"I also know of a soldier who was devoted to their service and was hastily discharged when it was discovered that they had vampire relatives. I still do not understand why the military won't take advantage of it" Brian said still looking at his credentials.
"And they should, because other countries may very well be more lenient about having vampires serve" Kevin said.
"Are you married or have children?" Brian asked.
"No. I never wanted either. I joined the military because I was angry all the time and often times, some jerk would say something he shouldn't have, and the situation always ended violently. So, I decided to direct that anger toward something else and the military was perfect for blowing off steam, but it was also perfect for discipline which I really needed and once I found my place there, I never wanted to leave. When I was discharged, I tried to find something that would allow me to use my skills.....well, some of my skills and being a bouncer kind of made sense at the time...but now..."
"You need something more structured" Brian offered.
"Yes. Being a bouncer made me feel like a Wiseguy...or a hitman. And that's just violence for selfish needs"
"Agreed. Well, Kevin I'm going to take you to meet Josef Kostan and we'll see if we can offer you something a tad more substantial than cracking skulls" Brian said with a nod of his head.

"Sir, I'd like you to meet Kevin Hawthorn. He's interviewing for the Security Chief position" Brian said when he walked into Josef's office.
"It's very nice to meet you Kevin, please have seat" Josef said motioning to the chair across from him. Brian handed him Kevin's resume.
"So, let me tell you what we're looking for. The Security Chief will be in charge of all Security guards, vendors, deliveries, maintenance, parking facilities and all things pertaining to Kostan Towers. Over the years we've had quite a few mishaps in our hiring, and I aim to change that. I see you were a Navy Seal!" Josef said in surprise.
"Yes sir. For almost 10 years" Kevin replied.
"So you are, I'm very sure well versed in confidentiality as at times discretion is the only thing that matters."
"Yes sir. I was set to be directed to head up a Joint Special Operations Task Force" he said.
"That's very impressive, what happened?"
"A bite on the neck sir" he said quietly.
"Do you know who turned you?" Josef asked now wondering why someone would turn an obvious soldier.
"She was beautiful. She had a thick accent said her name was Mihaela. She sounded Russian". Josef casually looked up at Brian as he nodded and left the office.

Brian was immediately at Zoe's door.
"Zoe, are you positive that the Veselie are all demolished?" he asked.
"Nothing is ever positive Bri, you know that, but according to the information I have yes, their numbers are at 0. Why?"
"Josef and I are interviewing a man who was turned, and he said a beautiful possibly Russian woman was the culprit. By the name of Mihaela. Can you do some research?"
"I don't have to do research Brian. Mihaela Zamfirescu is the once true vampire of the Veselie. I can't believe she is still among us. If she has indeed turned this man, it was for a reason and revenge would be my guess" she said.
"How powerful is she?" Brian asked thinking he needed to contact Gabriel and Mick as well.
"Well, you know they can take on the form of anyone, so we need to send the whole family the Vienna until she is destroyed. Unlike those who were below her who can only assume the form for an hour or so, Mihaela can continue for as long as she likes" Zoe said already beginning to pack her bags.

Brian immediately called his father and Gabe and told them of the situation. In seconds, they were standing in front of him.
"Are you sure it's the Veselie?" Mick asked quickly.
"Yes. I just got confirmation from Zoe" Brian replied. "Zoe thinks we should take the family to Vienna. I remember how much trouble the Veselie were with their little pranks on Josef and Isabelle"
"Well, if Zoe thinks Vienna is where we should send everyone then we have to get started on that first and foremost" Mick said speaking to Beth's mind letting her know what was going on.
"I think Mihaela will try to take out Josef first, because with Josef out of the picture it will be much easier to bend vampires to her way of thinking" Brian said, because he knew as he always did, that some vampires felt forever threatened by Josef Kostan, whether he did anything or not.
"I will collect all family members and drop them off in Vienna" Gabe said turning to leave.
"Son, don't forget about Carl and his family" Mick said as Gabe was headed for the door.
"Carl IS family dad. I wouldn't think of leaving him here".
"Good" Mick said as Gabe left the office. "So, let's get to work on coming up with a plan" he said to Brian.

Josef was calling the main money vamps and letting them know they needed to hightail it to Vienna ASAP.
"Well, if you say it is so, then of course I will freeze all assets as I meet with Helmut right now" Richard Nevins said already sending the email to his firm and telling them to shut everything down for a month.
"After what happened the last time, we need to be prepared" Josef said as he then thought of the numerous mortal contacts they had, like Ben Talbot and his brother and Mick's receptionist. He'd have to speak with Brian regarding the Cleaners, although they were very very capable of taking care of themselves.

Helmut was notified that all rooms would be required at Counsel, and he made sure that they were stocked in all essentials, while his wife Kelsey was busy making sure everything was properly aired out. Most of the suites on Counsel grounds had not been occupied in over a century, not to mention the rooms underneath Counsel.
As he sensed the arrival of the first to make it to Vienna, he went to check on stock. Counsel had on hand 75 people who offered sustenance to all Counsel members in exchange for housing, food and medical needs and an extra 45 more people in reserve ready to be called upon. As he heard the loud knock on the front door, he ran to answer it and was happy to see Lisa and Steve were the first to arrive.
"Lisa, Steve, how wonderful to see you both, but I do wish it was for a better reason" Helmut said sadly.
"There is no better reason gramps" Lisa said laying down her enormous duffle bag and giving him a very big hug.
Helmut chuckled. Lisa had the adorable habit of calling any ancient, gramps and it warmed his heart that she finally used the term on him.
"I feel safer already with you here my little assassin. What have you brought?" he asked noticing the size of her bag. "You do know that your visit here isn't permanent" Helmut said with grin.
"Ha, you wish! But what's in there are my personal ass-kicking necessities" Lisa said.
"By that she means enough firepower to take down a massive herd of elephants" Steve said rolling his eyes.
"I think Steve, she forgets she is vampire" Helmut joked.
"We're up against the head of the Veselie! I'm taking no chances and I also have some new tricks I've been dying to try" she said walking away to find a room for her and Steve that was located in the best tactical position.

Richard Nevins was the next to arrive with his assistant.
"Richard, my friend!" Helmut said hugging his old friend.
"Here we are facing the Veselie for what I hope is the last time" Richard said thinking that these merry prankster vamps needed to all be destroyed.
"They are a troublesome lot for sure".
"Hey gramps!" Lisa said walking down the stairs and throwing her arms around Richard then walking towards Kelsey as she saw her approach.
"Why is it that we have angels among us, but none make feel safer than that young woman" Richard said staring at Lisa. "If Katrina would only train her, I am convinced that we would face no more trials like this" Richard laughed.

By midnight, the entire vampire family had arrived. Some Helmut was meeting for the first time. Alma and Bridgett immediately disappeared together to consult a long dead voodoo priestess for guidance. Ted and Brian were discussing strategy for the younger vamps, Zoe was reading all the ancient text on how to defeat the Veselie, Steve was hard at work on the surveillance system and Brian had brought his sister Helen, her husband Jeff and their friend Noka who was a Multiplier. Everyone sipped glasses of blood and spoke about what needed to be done.
"So, what exactly did you have in mind Brian?" Noka asked.
"Right now, we need to focus on our strengths. We have angels, a multiplier, 2 Candiats, a handful of Nosferatu and the army of Lisa. Am I missing anyone?" Brian asked.
"You're missing Kevin" Josef said appearing next to them along with Kevin, Bridgett, Gideon, Sam and the children. Helmut upon seeing Kevin knew exactly who he was.
"You are Veselie!!!!" Helmut screamed.

Helmut started to lunge at the young man, but Brian quickly stopped him.
"You know what he is capable of!!" Helmut screamed.
"Helmut. Calm yourself and let us explain" Brian said softly.
"This is Kevin Hawthorne. A former Navy Seal who was turned and left while on leave. It was by the hands of Mihaela" Josef explained.
"Heaven help us" Helmut said closing his eyes.
"Heaven may, but we have to figure this out on our own. Zoe is researching the archives and Steve is updating the surveillance. If she decides to come on Counsel grounds, we have to be prepared. And it's better to have the fledgling here with us, than out in the open where Mihaela can scoop him up and make a slave out of him. Facing two Veselie, one which I'm sure was chosen because he was an assassin".
"We have to be very very careful. No one should be let onto Counsel grounds, even if it's someone we know. We must make sure they are who they claim to be" Josef said staring hard at Helmut. The Veselie do not like to make eye contact as it affects their shapeshifting, but Helmut was staring right back at him showing Josef that he was no imposter.

Zoe, Alma and Bridgett all came out at once.
"We need sand!" Zoe exclaimed.
"What on earth for?" Helmut asked.
"According to Emma, sand in their eyes renders them helpless" Alma said "The Veselie, it appears have no sense of smell, so if you blind them, they will be helpless"
"Are you sure Zoe? Vampires are well known for their sense of smell. How is it that vampire species could evolve with no sense of smell?" Brian wondered out loud.
"Who cares how it's done Bri, we must focus on their destruction" Zoe said still thumbing through the very old text. "We need at least a pound of sand. When Mihaela is destroyed she must be buried at least 10ft. deep. The sand must be buried with her or on top of her, then the hole then must be filled back up" she finished.
"A pound of sand" Brian said getting ready to retrieve it.
"It must be sand from the Holy Lands Brian. Not beach sand. The best sand should come from Jerusalem and Brian, it cannot be you to retrieve it. For it is you they want" she said.
"Brian you must stay away. You cannot be involved. Her goal is to capture you and make you her slave so she can rebuild the Veselie numbers" Bridgett said. "The mixing of your blood and Mihaela's would be a devastating combination. The power of just you two would...." Bridgett couldn't finish as she had seen the vision as did Alma and Zoe and the vision, if made to come true would mean destruction of all vampires.

Mihaela walked past the bar where she had turned the young man, calling out to him to come to her at once. She called again, becoming confused as to why he was not in front of her. As his sire, he would be compelled to return to her! Had he been destroyed? Had he foolishly destroyed himself, not being able to handle the Dark Gift. She really would have thought better of a military man, she thought to herself as she saw a large strapping man saying hello to a group he had obviously come to meet. She desperately spoke to his mind, as he slowly turned his head in her direction across the street.
"Hey man, excuse me for a bit I need to talk to someone" he said dismissively as he crossed the street. "Hey beautiful, my name is Bill Stouts. What are you up to this evening?" he asked.
"Up to? I do not understand?" Mihaela said frowning. The language of these people was most troubling. Bill noticing her accent, did what most people did. He spoke louder as if volume helped the language barrier.
"I mean, what are your plans for the evening?" he asked at level 100!
"My plans as you call them are making love to you quite passionately until we are both drenched in sweat" she said with a small smile.
"Your plans sound perfect" he said taking her hand and leading her away. "I'll talk to guys later!" he yelled back to his friends as he led the beautiful woman to his car.

Bridgett turned and looked at Alma quickly.
"Mihaela has chosen another because she could not find Kevin" she said wondering why she was unable to find her fledgling.
"She couldn't find him?" Alma asked in surprise. "I've never heard of such a thing. The bond between sire and fledgling is unbreakable".
"We have to look into this" Bridgett said alerting Zoe as once.

The destruction of all vampires......this was not the first time they had faced this situation, but why did it seem so dire this time? Helmut thought to himself. He quickly wrapped his arms around Kelsey.
"This cannot happen......we have not had nearly enough time together my love" he whispered to her.
"Then we must make damn sure it doesn't happen, because I am not ready to say goodbye to you" Kelsey said with a tear running down her cheek. He heard more people arrive, so he walked to the entrance and saw Mick and Josef with their wives and the Cleaners. Katrina and Isabelle both walked up the Helmut.
"Where is Daredevil?" Isabelle asked. Kelsey pointed to the direction and both Isabelle and Katrina left.
"How are you on previsions Helmut?" Josef asked.
"We are fully stocked for the moment" he replied.
"Well, we brought a substantial amount of retail. Everyone can't feed on Counsel stock" Mick said opening up the large chest that held bags and bags of blood.
"Come let's meet with Lisa and Alma and find out what the plan is" Josef said walking away.
They found everyone in the Morning Room where Lisa was seated on the floor surrounded by guns and ammo.
"Jesus Lisa! You do know that most of that firepower is not going to work on her"
"It will the way I'm setting up. These aren't gunpowder bullets. These over here are pure silver bullets and when they hit you, pure concentrated silver explodes inside you. Everyone who has ever shot a gun, needs to be packing. She said, handing Mick an Uzi. You ever shoot one Gramps?"
"You know I was in the military as well" Mick smiled at her as he checked the weapon and made sure it was loaded.
"What about you Uncle Josef?" she asked handing him a heavy Sig Sauer P220.
"Well, it's been a while, but I think I still know how to use one"
"Good. Because playtime is over. It's time to end this bitch!"


Alma who had been meditating for over an hour, suddenly peaked out.
"I know why she can't find Kevin! She hasn't given him her blood! The Veselie were dying out because of the constant mingling of their bloodline. She has chosen to protect the bloodline by turning people but not bonding to them"
"But Kevin told us he did drink her blood!"
"She gave him a tad during the fever stage to help him with the pain, but not enough to bond with her"


Mihaela smiled to herself. Sex was definitely one of God's greatest creations. The handsome man known as Bill laid next to her in the fever stage. She would have to find him someone to eat. She had no wish to mix her blood with a lowly mortal. She wished she had put a stop to the senseless turning of inferiors. She sighed and quickly put her clothes on.
"Now you stay right here, and I will feed you" she said close to his ear.
"W.....what di...did you do to me?' he said in pain.
"Something you will thank me for later" she said with a giggle as she left to find him some prey to eat.

While everyone was taking their rest Isabelle and Katrina quickly took Lisa away to Drago's former lair and began to give her rigorous training. Lisa was all too happy to learn from the Cleaners, who she had always secretly admired.
"Are you sure you wish to do this?" Isabelle asked.
"Honestly, I think I was born to do exactly this!" Lisa replied. Katrina and Isabelle both bit into their arms and held them in front of Lisa to drink and when she had drunk her fill, she closed her eyes and felt the dark power enter her body. She could feel the power enter her blood. She quickly opened her eyes and saw what they saw. What Brian saw. It was frightening at first, but very much like military training she confronted the fear head on and faced all she saw and seven hours later Lisa was ready.
"You did exceptionally well Lisa" Isabelle said to her. "Perhaps when this is settled, you will complete the final training".
"I would like that very much" Lisa said noticing the feeling going throughout her entire body and she knew she would be leaving the LAPD. She would become a Cleaner and she would have to have a long talk to Steve about her decision.

Josef was the first to notice when he saw Lisa enter the room.
"Well done, Lisa" he said walking towards her for her hug. Lisa looked at him in surprise.
"You could tell?" she asked.
"Although you have the stoic look of a former service person, no one does stoic like a Cleaner. I'm very proud of you and this should have happened a long time ago" he said.
"I know, I was just waiting for the right time and well, here we are". Josef looked at Isabelle and Katrina.
"Do you really believe she is ready?" he asked.
"Because of her military training, this process was easier than most. Dragos will be proud" Isabelle replied.

People were starting to awaken, yet no one noticed the difference in Lisa, until Steve walked in the room.
"Wow!" he said staring at his wife. She looked the same as always did, but there was something else.....a dark power that rested upon her.
"Do you still love me?" Lisa asked.
"Never doubt that EVER!" he said walking towards her and embracing her in a tight hug. Lisa hugged him back tightly and heard Steve wince.
"Take it easy Xena Warrior Princess, you'll snap me in half if you're not careful!" he said slowly moving out of her embrace.
"What's going on?" they heard Mick say from behind them. Mick stared at everyone and focused on his granddaughter. Everyone held their breath because they knew that Lisa was Mick's favorite. "Well, I guess there's nothing to be said at this point" he said sighing that his little granddaughter was now a part of the very deadly Nosferatu bloodline.
"I had to do this gramps. Surely, you of all people knew this would be my destiny" Lisa said walking up to him and taking his hand in hers.
"And you're okay with this Steve?" he asked.
"Lisa and I have been talking about this for quite a few years Mick. She was the only one who could at this time, and we need to end this Veselie bitch once and for all" Steve said.
