Read this as part of the Coffee House, as I'd never seen it before. ITA with all the other comments. Its so richly textured, a pleasure to read. I always thought that Coraline could love deeply, and here its portrayed beautifully.

dsr, this view of Coraline is indeed of a woman capable of love - and without the bitterness and insanity that came with her obsessive relationship with Mick. Earlier, simpler times. But still a woman who knew how to do what she had to in order to survive.

Luxe, thank so much. :rose:

I remember this. I was so shocked by a positive view of Coraline when I read this the first time.

This is such a different Coraline than the one that we...well, that's not precisely correct...that I am familiar with. However, when a life spans centuries and is somewhat immune to physical changes, could there be an added emphasis on other changes.

This is lovely.

(No surprise there.)

I'm intrigued that you found this so radically different from the Coraline we saw; she's still working an angle, still playing a game to get what she wants, and still capable of love. But take off a few decades, and all the thrills and horrors they may have contained, and this is one view of the woman she might have been. Not mad and not quite so damaged either.

An intriguing glimpse into the possible depths that are Coraline, this shows us a different side to the woman who Turned Mick against his will. Seldom in anyone absolutely good or bad and this provides a glimpse of more complex character than we saw.

Truly intriguing. If Mick got a glimpse of those depths, it makes his decision to stay with her for thirty three years much more understandable.

Wonderful story.

Thank you.
