--- Home ---
The rolling hold of a troop transporter, seasickness and the greasy stench of hundreds of fear-filled bodies raising bile with every breath. A frozen trench in the Ardennes, surrounded by the dead, the dying and those who longed to be so. The house of glass: cage, prison, playground. Shabby rented apartments and down-at-heel office digs. I've laid my head down in all of them.
But now, here, as I watch her move with the rhythm of her dream, for the first time since I walked out of my mother's house a lifetime ago, I know I am home.

Lovely and haunting, Red... and the coolest thing about it is... we kinda walked part of the way with him on this, so we can see exactly what he's remembering, and savoring.

O my Red,
Sometimes when the muse fails to cooperate, she offers up a gem like this! I, for one, thank her!!!
In a few words, you've conveyed a lifetime of experiences, from the safe haven of a childhood home, though the depths of fear and heartache, back to a place where love and comfort are found.

Re: Home (Mick, PG)
I came in to read your comment and re read the drabble ('cause as long as I'm here I may as well entertain myself thoroughly, right?) and this line is really haunting... what an apt way to describe that marriage... shivvers!!redwinter101 wrote:The house of glass: cage, prison, playground.
And it finally occurred to me that this line is literal... he DID leave his Mama a literal lifetime ago, in the number of years and in the fact of being actually living. Shivvers again! I love those shivvers!redwinter101 wrote:since I walked out of my mother's house a lifetime ago

Re: Home (Mick, PG)
Redwinter, you did it again. You captured a lifetime (or more) of experiences and mostly pain in such a short piece. And Mick came full circle, from home to home. Wonderful, mesmerizing, sad and hopeful. Thank you so much.
I did something similar with China in Your Hands, but you used only so few words to convey Mick's feelings. Brilliant.
