When and why did Mick become a Private Investigator?

Just curious,but, Did they ever say why he decided whatever job he had before wasn't cutting it,and figured being a Private eye would be a good idea and when it happened? And what was his job before? I knew he was a musician at some point when he was human.

As far as I know he became a Private Detective he said in his imaginary interview that he felt it was a way to use his vamp skills to track and catch bad people. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that was it.

I believe the only canon (i.e., shown in the TV series) facts about Mick's jobs are that he was in a band when he met Coraline sometime in the early 1950s, his marriage license in 1952 stated "Finance" as his occupation, and he was a PI in 1983, when Lee Jay murdered his wife (per the flashbacks in Out of the Past). We don't know when he decided to become a private investigator, or what that "finance" job was. Or even if music was his primary job in the early 50s. Maybe he was a finance guy as his day job, and the band was just a side gig. That gives us fanfic writers a lot of room for speculation.
