Off adventuring again :) Offline 8/27-9/2
Hi everyone,
Hubby and I are off to Burning Man again this year! So I'll be going offline for about a week, beginning Tuesday evening, August 27th. I'll probably be totally without Internet the whole time I'm there, but I'll check in from my phone as soon as we get back into the Land of Internet--probably sometime Monday, September 2nd. Please be kind to the mods while I'm gone!
Love,
Allegrita

Kee, you need to Google this celebration in the desert. I had never heard of it until Alle went last year. And wait till you see the photos!Kee wrote:Burning Man?
Safe travels, Alle! And I'll try to behave, but no promises.

Awww... You guys are awesome. (Even the rogues.)
Kee, here's some info about Burning Man, if you're interested. http://www.burningman.com/whatisburningman/ And if you would like to see my own impressions of Burning man, and some pictures I took last year, click this link: http://www.moonlightaholics.com/viewtop ... 39#p287939

I went to the website and read about it but I still don't get it. Maybe I will just read more about it when you come home. I do hope you have a very safe and happy trip!

Hey Alle, I knew you'd go back! Keep an eye out for a shark car photo op , and enjoy yourselves! And you should definitely go off with the hubby to the dark side for a little sky watching.
I hope the smoke isn't too bad as it looks like the fire is moving in that direction (though far away, thank Bob!). Given that BM is such a dust bowl already, though, perhaps you won't notice. I just keep crossing my fingers that it doesn't jump the ridgeline, 'coz in addition to the beauty of Yosemite, there's some mighty fine hot springs in that area (Travertine is one of my faves, and it's directly in the line of fire as it moves east ). Berkeley just lost its city-owned campground in Tuolumne. That area has some of California's most awesome geography. So sad to see it burning. The irony of BM going on in the midst of this is not lost on me.
Safe travels to you tomorrow! My crew from Berkeley is leaving for BRC today and I saw quite a few burners packing up this weekend in the 'hood, so there should be a good welcoming party for ya when you get there.
Finally, yes, do bring pictures!
ETA: And since I'm a Sire now, I guess I'll have to try to keep those Rogues in line.....

Yes, the Rim Fire is really affecting the air quality at Burning Man (before they've even started burning stuff up!). It just breaks my heart to think of that gorgeous area so devastated. They said on NPR this morning that the fire is now the size of Chicago in terms of acreage, and is still growing at an incredibly fast rate. My parents were both avid backpackers and campers for many years, and to be honest I'm kind of glad they aren't here to see what's happening to their beloved Yosemite. Interestingly, they asked people to make donations to the Yosemite Conservancy in their names, in lieu of flowers. Those donations will be even more important now!
But back on the subject of Burning Man, I do promise to look for Shark cars, just for you, HotMicks. And although you are now a Sire (BTW, congratulations--we've been so busy, lately, that we've become very remiss about acknowledging people's new ranks! ) you will always be a Rogue at heart.

I'd never heard of Burning Man either. I had to google it and it looks amazing.
