OC Character Profile Charles Riley Pt 2 Vampire Years

On night when Charles Fitzgerald was closing his shop two vampires took notice of him. Lola was planning a dinner party that evening and her guest Coraline had mentioned she would like testosterone. They kidnapped the jeweler and ate him for several hours. Charles went into a state of shock. The party broke up when an elderly vampire named Jonathan barged in. He was seventy years in body, eight hundred years of vampire. Lola had borrowed money from him and had not paid it back. Jonathan was here to collect. He would have fought Lola to the death except for the fact that Coraline Duvall was in attendance. Jonathan and the Duvalls equally shared control of France and he did not know if Lola had the Duvall protection. Instead he seized all the money and jewelry from Lola and her guests save Coraline and decided to take their dinner. Charles realized he was dying and turned to the man for help.

“Sir, I have a wife. I have money hidden can you please see that she gets it.

Jonathan was surprised at the request. This human didn’t beg for his life or offer the money as a bribe. He was trying to make a gentleman’s agreement in the presence of two vicious ladies. Jonathan decided at that moment he was going to turn this man. He was hoping to create an ally who would someday help him destroy the Duvalls. Jonathan took the time to explain what they were and that soon Charles would join them in immortality.

Charles asked for Extreme Unction the last rites of the church. If he died he feared for his immortal soul. Again Jonathan was impressed. He agreed and after the sacrament was administered Jonathan turned him.

The new vampire took an extremely long time to wake up, well over five hours. Jonathan wrote it off to middle age and the earliest stage of cancer that he tasted. The cancer had not spread enough to be tasted in a casual meal but the draining of the body allowed him to taste it. Within a few days of his new issue’s life Jonathan could tell that something was very wrong. His vampire was not aggressive enough, all violent tendencies seemed to be channeled into sexual desire. He was not as physically strong as he should be, he also realized his baby had amazing taste buds. He still couldn’t tell the difference between AB Negative and O Positive but he could taste meat, vegetables and fruit and correctly identify them in the blood. One day when Jonathan was punishing him with silver he noticed Charles barely moved. He could remain in the sun for over an hour, most newborns begged for darkness in under a minute but not Charles. He begged to see his wife and daughter and it was only Jonathan’s declaration that he would kill them in front of him that made that stop.

Jonathan ran a tight ship and Charles was educated in the old ways which he thought were extremely vicious. At the tender age of three Charles asked his sire for permission to start a business. Emancipation was unheard of so young but Jonathan decided to spin it that his issue was so mature he could earn some pocket money.

Charles talent became known in the vampire world. His ability to create anything the mind could image with a stone made him a fortune. Jonathan was embarrassed that his fledgling did not depend on him for support and Jonathan left the country in 1897.

Charles ran into his stepson Arthur around that time. After Arthur attacked him for abandoning his family and told him of the death of his wife, Charles explained to him about vampires and hired him in his store. Within a couple of years Arthur begged to be turned and Charles reluctantly agreed.

Charles found life was good. He was rich beyond his wildest dreams. He had an important “Daddy” whose name struck fear in the hearts of anyone that tried to give him trouble. He was single and had a string of meaningless sexual encounters. There was hardly a freshie in the city that hadn’t been bedded by him. He had one serious vampire relationship with a Cleaner but it ended around the 1929 stock market crash. He went back to his old ways until after World War II. He met a freshie that he actually fell in love with. His sire warned him about human/vampire relations so to protect her he never marked her as an exclusive. She was one of many girls that modeled jewelry in his store and fed vampires as part of her job. One night she was out at a freshie club celebrating her engagement and on the way home a vampire picked her up. She was afraid to refuse him and unfortunately there was an accident and she died. The vampire called the Cleaners and Hope Scanlon recognized Charles’ fiancée. She explained the special circumstances to her superiors and they hid the body so Charles would not be able to track down the vampire.

Charles flew into a rage and he felt betrayed by The Cleaners and his sire who would not offer assistance. He started to go to the seedier clubs where you could get high on drugged freshies. He was starting to get a reputation with almost overdoses. His sire stepped in and shipped him off to Nova Scotia to detox. He spent a year under the watchful eye of his sire and fledgling Arthur and learned to move on with his life.

From 1955 until the late 1970’s he was responsible for supervising Sarah Whitley’s care. When Hope Scanlon moved back to New York he relocated to Los Angeles. He started the first version of Riley Jewelers there and because he was blessed with being turned in middle age could keep an identity for ten to twenty years. In 1987 he had another serious relationship with a freshie but this time he marked her for exclusivity and they lived together for a few years. She eventually wanted children so they parted ways. Charles had meaningless encounters until late 2008 when he met a young woman by the name of Plum Blossom. He offered her exclusivity and they lived together until late 2010 when they got married in the same church Charles was married in 1867. Charles has since reconciled with Hope and his sire. He has become good friends with the vampire that delivered him as a baby and he plans to turn Plum into a vampire within the next few years.
