Well, remember, the stand-in gets to stand (or sit, or whatever) for what can be long periods of time while the crew sets up lighting and mikes and all that techie stuff none of us really thinks about.
It's different than a stunt double...just someone to be a place holder while the scene is put together.

Adorable!
It's amazing how the mannerisms were there even then... the head tilt just before he said he made his decision and the tiny smirk at the end.

The scary thing about that guest list is how many of those actors I have already seen at conventions over the years.
