If Lilah had told Ray of her relationship with Mick, one kind of pain might have been replaced with another, with doubts of Robert's paternity forever lingering in Ray's mind.

I remembered this poignant story of Mick's experiences in the Battle of the Bulge, and wanted to bump it for Memorial Day. I'm so glad I had a chance to reread it. It's such a wonderful look into Mick's very soul, and a clear look at the horrors of war.
