Shatter (3 drabbles, PG-13)
Title: Shatter
Author: redwinter101
Rating: PG-13/R, language
Disclaimer: I don't own Moonlight or any of its characters
Note: These three drabbles came out of a challenge to insert a drabble between two lines of dialogue. The lines I chose (in italics) are from Out of the Past. I originally wrote one from Mick's POV and then one from Beth's. Then, at the request of my good friend, LMM, I wrote a second drabble, a continuation, from Mick's POV.

Shatter
Part 1 - Mick
“Oh my God.”
No.
Oh God.
Close enough to touch but a whole world between us, pushing, splitting, destroying.
Everything shattered in a few moments.
Her blood rising. Her eyes. I can feel her, seeing me.
Me.
The me I want to hide.
Can’t breathe.
I could have been safe in the shadows forever but now it’s gone, all gone.
Please.
Beth.
Turn around.
Don’t look.
Don’t come any closer.
Then maybe we can go back, forget, and I can disappear again.
She killed for me.
She saved me and now it’s all broken.
I can’t lose her now.
Not now.
Not yet.
Part 2
A continuation - for LMM
It’s too soon.
Much too soon.
Too much for her.
Too much for me.
But she’s still standing there. I can feel her heartbeat, pounding, faster, faster. But she’s not moving.
Go.
Stay.
Run.
Hold.
Why isn’t she screaming, calling for help? Fuck. Can’t think straight. Think. Can’t move. Need to run but I can’t move.
Can’t.
Breathe.
In.
Out.
She’s still there. Waiting. Waiting for me to show her it’s not true, that it’s not what she thinks. She’s seen the blood, the bag in my hand. But she’s still there.
No choices left.
This is what I am.

Part 2 - Beth
“Oh my God.”
He’s shaking. Sweet Jesus he’s covered in blood. It’s all over his hands and...
Oh my God. His face. His mouth.
Why is there blood all over him? What the hell is going on?
I should go. I should leave right now. He wants me to go but my feet won’t move. He wants me not to look but I have to, because I think...
Stop it.
That’s ridiculous.
I must be in shock.
Pull yourself together, Beth.
He’ll turn round, I’ll see his face and it’ll make sense.
Please, Mick.
Look at me.
Tell me I’m wrong.
Show me.

These are some of your best work, Red. Their simplicity is visceral. Mmmm......

Man, I don't even know what to say. These drabbles so represent what you could honestly believe was going through each of their minds at the time. Unbelievability. Horror. Shock. Terror yet curiousity. This feels like an in depth study in Moonlightology, a class in which we would all get an A+. So, so good Red.

Sigh. Moonlightology. How lovely.
And your comment's lovely, too.

I love it. So few words, such a world of hurt. Mick is at a point of decision, but the decision is taken from him. He's out of control. I love it.I can feel her, seeing me.
Me.
The me I want to hide.

Thanks, francis. This was my Moonlight moment - the moment I fell for Mick St. John. And fell hard...

Re: Shatter (3 drabbles, PG-13)
Thanks, jen. This moment (in the show) was when I really, finally, irrevocably, fell in love with Mick St. John - so it was lovely to write a little something about it.
