Here via the Coffee House for a long overdue re-read of this fic.

Such a vivid insight and glorious detail added to this already memorable and amazing scene in the show is breathtaking. I love Shadow's description of gorgeous and chilling. It's perfect. :cloud9:

Oh, wow, I'm honored. Thank you so much to everyone for their interest, and especially for the Coffee House rec. I'm delighted that this fic is considered a personal favorite of Red's, since all of her stories are exceptional (and in my bookmarks!). I always mean to swing by the Coffee House and have a chat but I never quite catch it. Know this, though: soon I will threaten your peace with an appearance :) .

And again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you to Heartgram_lala for my beautiful icon.

I have NO idea how this happened, but my comments have disappeared!!!

I have recommended this (in the recs thread) and picked it as a personal fave in the Coffee House... but my comments are gone. :Mickangel:

I come back periodically to re-read - as I do with ALL my favourite fics - so I'll have to re-comment. :mdrama:

It's difficult for me to explain why this fic means so much to me - because it really does - when the writing speaks for itself so eloquently. The three of them: Mick, Beth and Josh - they're HERE, In this story - in emotion and heart and soul, they are here.

I feel Mick's pain and desire and loathing and revulsion and hope and, finally, defeat.
I feel Beth's desperation, and loss of all reason, and love.
I feel Josh's immutable need to go on living.

It grips and thrills - and always, ALWAYS, makes me cry.
lila wrote:He wished he could want Josh to live, but all he could desire in those trickling minutes were Beth and blood.

And for the fucking sun to fade. Christ, but it burned. Josh was gone and Beth was alive and alone and Mick thought that maybe that burned her more than the harsh sun burned him.
Just amazing. Simply amazing - the complexity, the truth. The pain.
lila wrote:She had those fucking blue eyes and she was looking at him, waiting for him to do something, anything, even whisper her name, touch her hand,
And there you have it. It's all there. Right there. Mick's joy and Mick's downfall.

I adore this story - now as much as the very first time I read it.

How lovely.

The lines about Josh's memories seeping out to mix with the soil is so rich with imagery.

And those three are caught in a dance--a step forward and a step back, but caught within the events that now chain them together.

Brava, Lady!
