You know, when we were there, I didn't notice that, but they sure look like it in the photo.


ETA: Here's a closeup. The consensus in the Lilly family is that they are electric solar panels.

I am doing research for a magazine story about budget cuts in the Salinas school district, which, as you might know, is the hometown of John Steinbeck. I have a running theme throughout the story tying in with the Grapes of Wrath. So, I'm Googling for the WPA (Works Progress Administration - a Great Depression-era public works program that gave jobs to the unemployed during the Depression, for you international folks), because I want to send the graphic designer some artwork from the WPA days to give her a sense of the visual theme I have in mind. Guess what I found out? The Griffith Park observatory was built by the WPA! There's always a Moonlight connection! :2eyes:

Yep, solar panels for electricity. We have the same on our roof. In Germany they are quite popular, as the government helps with the purchase with cheap loans. Within a few years you have your money back when you sell the electricity.
