Moonlight Locations: Sleeping Beauty

Note: This episode is the only one to date that was shot entirely on the studio lot. There’s not too much new here.

I will only be listing locations we haven’t seen before.

2. John Whitley’s apartment interior – ?, Warner Bros. Studios, Burbank, CA

This same space was used for the pool room in The Mortal Cure. Through the doorway opening, you can see a wood panel with cutout squares. This was lit from behind in TMC. In the room with the piano, through which the nurse, Mick and Beth enter in a later scene, you can also see the distinctive striped wallpaper of the massage room from TMC. Because not only the wallpaper in both rooms, but also the placement of the doors, the panels and the bookshelves, are identical, I believe that this may be a standing set on the lot -- most likely the interior of one of the houses on Midwest Street. I haven’t been able to verify this yet, however.

4. 301 Waverly Place, New York City - Ashley Boulevard, Warner Bros. Studios backlot, Burbank, CA

The rowhouses on Ashley Boulevard are little more than facades. They’re actually only about five to six feet in depth – just enough to suggest an entryway. There aren’t any rooms inside.

The grassy area in the foreground of this photo is actually the park used in the next scene. On the lot, it's immediately across the street from the Embassy building.

Mick and Beth walked off between the two trees seen at the far edge of the park in this photo.

Wow, thank you. I didn't realize that the room for Whitley and the vampire club were the same. Some kind of irony, right?

Strange - the episode that had our characters travelling farthest from LA was the only one entirely shot on the WB lot.

And HOW much do I love you for "to date"? :smooch:

Oh how lovely to see all this, Lilly! To know all this, but to SEE the rooms from their different perspectives and uses. :cloud9:

Once again Lilly thanks for all the work you do getting us these wonderful pictures. I had no idea that Whitley's room had been used three times over in the episodes, thanks for pointing that out.

Glad you're all enjoying the latest installment of the tour.

Back in the Episode 2 locations thread, I said that standing on the rooftop level of the parking garage where Josef drove up in the Ferrari was my second biggest "being there" thrill.

Now I get to share my biggest -- climbing the steps to "301 Waverly Place" and having a look inside. :hearts:

Our tour group was walking down Ashley Boulevard coming from the commissary, where we weren't allowed to have our cameras. My husband saw me looking longingly at "Josef's house" and asked our tour guide if he could get the camera and take a picture of me on the steps of that building. I must have made some pretty impressive puppy dog eyes, because the guide said "sure, go on up and have a look around, if you like." :thud: I swear the rest of the group must've thought I was nuts as I went up the steps and then paused at the door (which was wide open) and ran my hand over the place where Josef had knocked. My hubby took a few pictures of me grinning like an idiot :teeth: and we piled back into the tram to continue the tour.

I'm visiting NYC in May. Although I know that ML shot its NYC scenes on the WB lot, I decided to google the location anyway. Imagine my surprise (and delight) to find that not only is there a street named Waverly Place -- complete with brownstones -- but that the Village Vanguard is only a short walk from it! :twothumbs:

I guess I'll have to drop by the Vanguard while I'm there. :winky:

It seems Mick's info on the club is way out of date though. Not only don't they serve steak, but...
We do not serve food. We haven't served food here in 35 years. So if someone offers you a hamburger, check the expiration date.
