Business Plan - PG - Champagne Challenge #134

Post by Lilly »

Very late response to Champagne Challenge #134: Resolution Drabble.

Well, there's nothing like being late to your own party. Er, challenge. Truth is, I tried so hard not to cheat and write a drabble before I posted the challenge, I almost never wrote one at all. But I had this voice in the back of my head...

Disclaimer: I do not own Moonlight - or its characters. Every once in a while one of them speaks to me and I try to take dictation, but no disrespect or copyright infringement is ever intended.

Business Plan

Midnight. The year doesn't matter. What matters is -- I outlived another calendar. Done deal.

For the record, I don't do regrets. And I sure as hell don't do resolutions. Because the only thing worse than looking back... is looking forward.

Those lies you tell yourself when the clock strikes twelve -- they're just last year's regrets, tied up with good intentions and re-gifted to a new year. There's a cliché there somewhere... but I paved that road a long time ago.

I'll just stick to the business plan. It's gotten me this far...

Protect what matters. To hell with the rest.

An excellent business plan, IMO. I really do think the holidays must be hard on vampires. One more year in a never ending string of years.

Nice job, Lilly! And you can show up at your own party any time you feel like it! :twothumbs:

When you bring party favors like this, you can be as late as you want. This is brilliant. :notworthy:

I love the fact that he doesn't quote the cliché. if you get it, you get it. If you don't-- well, he hasn't got time for people who don't catch the nuances. :nonono:

Perfect Josef. And he's not in a very good humor, either. I wonder if he's just come back from the tar pits... :chin:

Nah, if he'd just come BACK from the tar pits, he'd be in an excellent humor. It's before he goes, when he gets moody...

Lilly

This is perfect!

Josef Kostan distilled down to his essence with trademark snark absent, dishing out truth as only he can.

Thank you!

Thank you all so much! :ghug: To tell me I've hit the mark with Josef's voice is the best compliment you could ever give me. :rose:

Alle, I'm delighted that you liked that little bit. It seemed so very Josef to allude to something he felt was common knowledge and not be bothered explaining himself.

Better late than never, Lilly, else we'd have missed out on this.

This is Josef, all right and boy, have you got both his voice and his view on 'life' nailed. All in 100 eloquently crafted words :notworthy:

Thank you so much, dsr.

I've always felt that beneath the apparently hedonistic, live-in-the-moment exterior, there was a deep and abiding code of honor. Josef would protect what was important to him, whether it be for love, brotherhood, or the very existence of the vampire nation. Just about everything else was expendable.

Great to reread this one! Josef is often a man of few words, and he has a vampire's life down pat: Outlive another year protecting what matters.

Done deal. :highfive:

Thanks for bumping this, Lilly!

Josef dusting his fingertips as he puts another year to bed. I love this one-- it's a little, polished jewel. :happysigh:
