An Unexpected Gift - PG-13

Post by PNWgal »

This is more than a drabble, less than a vignette. A drablette? ;-)

Enjoy.

Usual disclaimers apply.

AN UNEXPECTED GIFT

If love's a gift to give away;
For you I swear, it'd be Christmas every day.

'Really and Truly' - Paul Brandt

"I love you."

Mick lifted his head from nuzzling Beth's breast and smiled. "Huh?"

"I haven't said it outloud yet. I love you." Beth's fingers stroked Mick's damp and tangled dark curls. "I'm not sure how I feel about that."

Mick's brows pulled down into a "V". "Is that a bad thing?"

"No." Beth lifted and angled her head so she could look down at the contented vampire snuggled up against her. "It was just unexpected."

Soft kisses made their way across her collar bone to the fresh bite on her neck. "I'm not sure what you mean."

A sigh escaped Beth's lips. "I was happy in my life. I had a fantastic new job, a relationship with a great guy. Good-looking, too." Beth grinned when a growl vibrated against her throat. "But not as good-looking as you."

"Hrmph." Mick was only slightly mollified. "So what happened?"

"My life changed forever when I met this P.I. at a fountain at a crime scene one night. He saved me more times than I can count, even giving up the gift of his newfound humanity to do it." Beth shifted and pushed at Mick's shoulders. He rolled onto his back so Beth could straddle him. "I found my guardian angel and fell in love with him."

Mick gripped Beth's hips and thrust upwards. "So was falling in love the unexpected part?"

"No." Beth closed her eyes, sank, shuddered. "The unexpected part was that he loved me first."

Mick & Beth really did have whirlwind of a year didn't they? If you stop to think it is magical that they fell in love.

This one sums up the whole first season wonderfully. Beth is at a good place in life, as he is. I love how you get this across in so few words, starting with him snuggling up on her in bed. It's so tender and angst-free. And the ending is starting to get hot. :smooch:
I'm glad you stopped at that point! :rofl2:

Drablette, my arse. This was a little slice of heaven.
"The unexpected part was that he loved me first."
And he did, didn't he? At least the first to realize and accept it.

*sigh* This truly was an unexpected gift. You have just been full of surprises. :rofl2: And I am thankful.

Gorgeous, PNW, just gorgeous. So easy with each other, with such honesty and care. And hell yeah on the sexy.

You got me sighing too - and that is a killer last line.

Thanks, Red - I just love the thought of a Mick and Beth totally comfortable with each other...and a Beth that's grateful for Mick's love.

Glad that last line grabbed ya! :smooch:
