A Mother's Love - G (Champagne Challenge #146)

Post by PNWgal »

A/N: This just kinda popped into my head on the drive home.

A MOTHER'S LOVE

Hope, like love, endures.

My soldier son, my Mick. He’s finally come home.

He’s broken in body and spirit, but he’s home, safe and sound, sleeping in the bedroom he’s occupied since he was a baby. He’s so thin and pale, but a month of my cooking will put some meat on his bones. I’m up late, brushing out his Army dress uniform, ironing his shirt. He wants to visit Ray’s widow tomorrow, wants to apologize, to try to explain why he came home and Ray didn’t.

I mourn for Lilah, but my heart is jubilant.

My boy’s come home.

Almost needed the tissues for this one, Pgal! We never even met Mick's mother, but this is pitch perfect IMHO. Thanks for sharing! :flowers:

MLC... Thank you, sweetie. I guess as the mother of a son, I've always felt like I get Mick's mom. :hearts:

*hands Fleur a hankie*

You're a peach, babe. :smooch:

Oh, honey... this is absolutely gorgeous. I have always loved Mick's mom, even though we never met her on the show.

Bless her heart. Any mother can identify with this. She's got her darling home where he belongs. :hearts:

(And yeah, my heart's breaking for her that her joy will not last long...) :Mickangel:

PNWGal

This is perfect!

Of course, she would feel this way--grateful and basking in the joy of his homecoming. She is sorry for Ray's loss, but her focus is Mick. She sees all remaining problems as problems that she can fix but nothing will ever truly be the same...

Lovely answer to the challenge!

Thank you!

Jenna

Bloody hell, PGal, how do you do that? Have us all bathing in the warm and fuzzy joy of Mick's mum and then smack bang drop us without so much as a by your leave in the cold, cold water of what we know is to come. That's really skilled. Grrrr.

With a few words you manage to make me think I know her, have seen her in the show and feel what she feels. :hearts:

Lovely. :rose: Lots of terrible things have happened, and things aren't perfect, but Mick is back home. And for his mom, that is the most important thing.

Beautifully done, Pgal! :hearts:

I know you do, babe.

Thanks, Alle. :smooch: I think every WWII mother felt the same way if they were lucky enough to have their soldier sons come home alive. It's terribly sad that only a few short years later, she'd lose him forever. :Mickangel:

Thanks, jen! I think every mother tries to fix what she can, like feeding a son who needs to gain some weight, but there's only so much they can do. :hearts:

Luxe! Miss you, babe! And thank you for stopping by for a read and leaving such fabulous feedback. I'm humbled. :rose:

francis, your feedback is amazing and I thank you. :flowers: I've always felt that Mick's mom was a major influence in his life, and had a hand in making him the man (and vampire) he became.

Amen, Marigold. Sometimes it's just the simple joy of life that makes a mother's day complete.

There's so much loss when there is war (in this case death of friends and the part of himself her son has lost over there) so her happiness cannot be pure but it's there and she's entitled to it.

Very nice, Pgal.

It's amazing how you've captured this moment in Mick's (and his family's) life, in such a very few words.
