My own thoughts about this episode:

I know this episode isn't a favorite, but I love it despite its flaws. Yeah, TeenVamp's pimples are a horrible anomaly in terms of established Moonlight vamp physiology. But I chalk them up to poetic license, a physical manifestation of all the unseen things about adolescence that would make being perpetually 16 so awful. You can't show the thinking-about-sex-20-times-a-minute thing on the outside (at least not on network TV!) :snicker: but you can show zits. A lot of people have said they don't like Wes Robinson's portrayal of TeenVamp, but I kinda liked it. My own son's extremely difficult adolescence is a recent enough memory that this character struck a chord with me. The anger, the feelings of shame and frustration, the violent lashing out... yeah, been there, felt that. I was desperately sorry for Mineo, and I understood why Mick was, too.

I think that the casting of Wes Robinson as Mineo was intentional. He's tall, rangy, with long, curly, dark hair. An ugly-duckling version of our vamp. Mineo's not cool at all, but I bet Mick wasn't either at age 16... I really think that we were meant to see Mineo as a "There but the grace of God go I" character for Mick.

This episode also gives us another situation where Mick's sympathy (and empathy) for an antagonist makes him vulnerable to attack, and Mick really gets the stuffing beaten out of him by this kid. Mick prevails out of luck rather than pure physical prowess. Mick's empathy is endearing, but it sure gets him into trouble--he gets suckerpunched a lot while he's giving the other guy a chance to see the error of his ways. But that's what makes Mick Mick, I suppose. :hearts:

Now to the unquestionably wonderful things about this episode, 'cause it's full of moments that make me go :melts: :melts: :melts:

The meeting at the elevators, when Mick is so flustered and Beth backpedals the "blood test" thing so completely. (Poor Josh! And then she runs out on their anniversary dinner!)

That amaaaaaaaazing scene at the morgue, where both Mick and Beth look luminously beautiful, and they have one of those wonderful Mick-Beth banter arguments that just make me hug myself in delight.

Beth meeting Josef and Rider... and Mick's facial expression when she says, "Whatever you want."

Mick single-handedly overwhelming two cops, and then having to suck it up and get yelled at (and oh... the Eyebrow of Disdain!) :happysigh:

The conversation in the car, about sex.

And, of course, The Parking Lot Kiss, which is by far my favorite kiss because of the shock and delight on Mick's face. :melts: :happysigh:

I have to agree. About everything. :giggle:

The scenes you picked out are not just my favourites in this episode, they are among my favourites in the whole season - but overall the lack of empathy I felt for the young vamp (whose name I did not know was Mineo until I read your post - call myself a fan? ) kinda spoiled it for me.

But I shall revel in the Mick goodness - and perpetual cool. Cos there's a LOT of that in this episode. :hearts: :hearts: :cloud9: :cloud9:

:smooch: Absolutely my favorite MickBeth kiss. The look of relief on Mick's face when Beth tells him she and Josh are NOT getting married. Then the look on Josh's face... The look on their faces during the vamp human sex conversation. :giggle: Then the best parts...the Mick stare at Beth when he brings Cherish to her parents and then THE kiss. I love it. :happysigh: :woohoo:

:Mickangel: Wouldn't miss it for the world. My husband always asks the silly question..."Why do you need to watch that again"? Or..."Did you know Moonlight is on"? He's so funny. I watch it every time it comes on, on every channel that airs it. Doesn't make sense I know, since I own it on every media known to man. :snicker: But there's something about watching it on TV that makes me giddy. :hyper:

ITA, aolver. You're not crazy (or if you are, you're not alone  ). I had SUCH fun when ML re-aired on TV here in the UK earlier in the year and I'm terribly envious that you all get to watch it again. I think it's the thrill of knowing over a million others are watching it at precisely the same moment. :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

:gasp: There is a group of us "Alex" fans here in the desert who have gotten to be friendly over the last few months, and a couple of us went to the BUP premiere in L.A. together in April. I appear to be the only one of our group who watches ML religiously, as none of them have seen it more than a couple of times. :eek2: That was kind of my reaction when I heard this at our last lunch get together. Once or twice????????? What the..... :snicker: :snicker: Then again, I'm the only one who saw TBUP 11 times. I'm nothing if not dedicated. :happysigh: :happysigh: :happysigh:

I agree with you, aolver and Red--it's wonderful to know I'm watching it along with everyone else! :ghug: I'll be watching it tonight, although since I'm on the west coast I might be a little late to the discussion. I hope lots of you will join in!

 We met at the premiere, but didn't have a conversation. Luna and I were speaking at length about her fic, which I love dearly. :hearts:

This could just be a manifestation of my fevered imagination (no pun intended) but I see a common thread woven thru Dr. Feelgood, and the teenage vamp in Arrested Development, and the Cure that was introduced in later episodes. Rather like individuals like that teenage vamp could one day be on the cure long enough to grow out of his awkward stage.

Maybe a nutty idea, but it could have been explores in later seasons?

Anyway, the episode isn't my favorite either but it had some amazing moments. The MickBeth banter was charming. Beth's first meeting with Josef. That eyebrow lift (I think Alex could do comedy, he has such wonderful range and showcased it so well here), And.that.kiss. That little scene at the end is the best of all.

Wouldn't miss it! DVD's notwithstanding.

I agree with everything already said about this episode, but wanted to add that one of my favorite M/B small moments is in this one. It's when they're in the kid's apartment and Carl is yakking at Beth and Mick's just been released by the cops. It's the little Mick-look at the personal notebook that Beth catches; she then lifts it and carries it off. I love that quick moment because it reveals how incredibly connected and attuned to each other they are already.

You know, when I saw the series the first time, this was definitely one of my least favorite episodes. It later became one of my favorites because of all the fabulous M/B scenes.

You're absolutely right! That is a wonderful little detail. They were so in tune that they communicated with just a look. Fabulous!

I'm kind of surprised at everyone saying that this wasn't really their favorite episode. It's got to be in my top 5 or 6. I loved the whole "universe, fate, destiny" vibe in the dialogue and Mick's voice over. I loved the scene where Josef met Beth. I loved Beth's "whatever you want" - kind of a prelude to next week's BC episode. There was so much humor! Loved the fight on the roller coaster. AND the kiss... Actually, it was the SMILE after the KISS that totally pushed me over into a "YES! YES! YES! I'll have what she just had" reaction.

The only thing I didn't care for was Josh and his chicken. At that time, I felt he was in the way of what I really wanted to see. Over time, I have come to appreciate his role - particularly after Jordon turned out to be such a nice guy.

SIGH! Only 2 hours and 15 minutes.

AD isn't one of my favorites either simply because of the way the teenage vamp was portrayed, combination of the actor's portrayal and the character he was given to bring to life. Too many threads were left dangling - like who turned him and how was he betrayed. Was he the same escort killer come down from San Francisco?

Don't get me started on Marisa - she makes my hair hurt.

However, I do agree with r1015bill about Josh. I really didn't appreciate Josh's character until the end of the series and how he went from a happy man with a promising career, in love with a wonderful woman to an unhappy one who realized that wonderful woman was slipping away from him. In the first four episodes, Josh viewed Mick as someone very different from himself that had caught Beth's attention. AD is the first episode in which the alarm bells go off and he acknowledges that Mick is coming between them, despite Beth's protestations. It's a turning point for everyone - Josh recognizing the competition for what it is, and fearing he can't compete, Beth beginning to think of Mick as more than just a friend and Mick caught in the middle, a part of him fearing the attraction, while the other part flattered by it and wanting it.

In the end, Josh was a tragic character, one I came to admire.

Very good observations about Josh, dsr. The first time around, I kind of viewed him as a comic figure.

Perhaps we all view Josh more empathetically now with our hindsight that he's going to die in 6 episodes.

... As well as Jordon is very nice to the ML fans!
