Amazing WWII-era Kodachrome pictures

Amazing WWII-era Kodachrome pictures

Postby allegrita » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:27 pm

A friend sent me this link to a blog containing some amazing photos, all taken between 1940 and 1943. http://pavelkosenko.wordpress.com/2012/ ... dachromes/

These pictures really helped me envision Lilah working at one of the many aircraft assembly plants in the LA area during the war. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

The guy who created the blog got his pictures from the Shorpy Historical Photo Archive site, which has tons of archival pictures from many years. For people looking for a sense of what an era looked like, this site could be a huge resource. http://www.shorpy.com

No wonder Paul Simon wrote:
Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's
a sunny day
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

These are priceless...to see what our Grammas and Moms wore while they put their shoulders into the war effort.

Black and White never showed youth's blush or their emotionally driven flush.

Thanks for bringing this to the board.

The color and clarity of those pics are phenomenal. (And...my in-laws grew up near San Augustine, TX, so that shot of the schoolchildren was particularly interesting to me. Those kids were way younger than my parents in law, but it's still interesting!)
