I just found this 2007 interview with Sal Perez about his costume designs for Moonlight.

So, it's the color that's important for Beth, huh? That explains Click; the colors did look good on Sophia.

I think we have to discount the final 4. In fact, according to his IMDB profile, he did not work on episodes 15 or 16. So maybe the costuming decisions of FtP and Click were imposed from above, like other aspects. The change in clothing styles, especially for Beth, may have reflected the change in tone that characterized the last 4 episodes.

I did NOT know that (or maybe I did... but I forgot).
