Oh isn't it amazing how much this means to us all???

Thank you for your diligence and skill, Lilly... it is soothing to know just how it was. :cloud9: It was so gorgeous... it was SUCH a character in its own right... and to have it properly represented and recorded, well, it truly does mean a lot.

you are a legend, Lilly. Thanks for that. .... just one question though, and it's probably been answered earlier.... where does the door in the far right corner go?? I've variously wondered whether that's where the freezer is, but then, Mick seems to walk out of his freezer room and straight into the bathroom, which as we all know :snicker: is upstairs.

Can someone help out with that?

Luxe, we tossed this question around on page 2 of this thread. I'm quoting myself here...
Lilly wrote:Personally, I don't think the set designers spent a lot of time making Mick's loft "fit" into the Title Guarantee Building's actual layout. There was no reason to. I think they came up with the best design for the character and the show, and didn't worry about the logistics of fitting it into the actual building. Mick's apartment is approximately 30 feet wide with windows on both sides. Also, his office features a slanted wall of windows approximately 20 feet from the wall that holds his front door.

As for the "mystery" door, the wall is bumped in there, so it could easily be a closet. Not very glamorous, I agree. And I've always wondered if this was the "gray door" Mick warned Beth about in "12:04am." I had considered that this could be the entrance to his freezer room until "Sleeping Beauty" when he clearly headed upstairs to get some rest. In the first episode, Mick did approach his hidden blood freezer in the kitchen from that direction when he first woke up. A number of details changed after the pilot -- I'm just wondering if this was one of the ones that got tweaked along the way.
I still think that this may have originally been intended to be the entrance to his freezer room. Up until episode 10, we really had no indication where that was supposed to be.

Also, in Click, when Mick leaves Beth alone to make her own bed on his couch (Geez, Mick...real smooth!) he goes upstairs, telling her he'll be asleep in his freezer. So I assume that it's attached to the bathroom--especially since it's got plumbing in it, and plumbing tends to be clustered together in construction, for efficiency's sake.

I remember standing there...

*happysigh*

and just 'coz words don't do it justice... :happysigh:

:snicker:

This, and seeing the freezer and Josef's mural (and the snarks on the wall  ), were the highlight of the tour for me. One thing I never posted, when we entered Mick's loft (the set), it was MUCH smaller than I anticipated and so we were really kinda jammed in there, tripping over each other ("Ahhh, the fireplace!" "Squee! The bookcase!" :rolling: ). Just as I got to the staircase, some crew member was upstairs and came outta nowhere down the steps. I heard him before I saw him and for a split second there before my brain could catch up, my heart skipped a beat thinking it was gonna be Mick coming down those stairs. :giggle: No such luck, of course, but it was a happy moment. :cloud9:

This is a bang-up job, Lilly. I can't imagine what it took, but thank you for putting this together. I often go through these locations, props, sets, etc. threads and reminisce....

You're a lucky lady HotMicks

I got to tour the studio, but when I got there (Oct 2008) the studio at stage 14 was now the set of The Mentalist. Yeah it was smaller then I thought it would be, but I so could imagine where the FoS was. They still had the dark wood flooring running the length of the set and the height was there, but nothing else. I blocked out what our guide was talking about (The Mentalist) cause I was deep in thought that "this" is where Mick Beth and Josef once stood...shooting Moonlight...My Moonlight...our Moonlight. :sigh:

I totally know what you mean, HotMicks and Kath... when all the mods came to Los Angeles a few years ago and we went on the WB tour, Lilly talked them into making it as Moonlight-specific as they could. (But we knew way more about it than the tour guide did. ) Anyway, they took a little nonstandard detour through the shop area, so we could see where they shot some of those "warehouse" locations. And there, just stuck into a bin filled with miscellaneous junk, was one panel of Mick's beautiful screen. I think I screamed. :blushing: For safety reasons, we weren't allowed to get out of the tram, and they wouldn't let us touch it, but I did ask a guy walking by what it was made of, and I believe he said it was medium density fiberboard. (Lilly, is that correct?) It was painted black, not the rich reddish-brown that it was in Mick's loft, but it was definitely his screen. And I felt such a ludicrous rush of joy when I saw it, I can't even tell you. How dumb--a random piece of set background, not even put together, just a foot-wide strip! But it was like being in Mick's loft, for a second.

By the way, I will never stop kicking myself for not going on the WB tour before ML Con. I tried to go on the Monday of that weekend, but by then they weren't allowing people to see any of the sets. :Mickangel:

Hey, it ain't called the fortress of style for nothin'.

And I know what you mean about the silly little things. I can't tell you what a thrill it was to walk in and see that bookcase... and then I went to the kitchen - those CUPBOARDS! :rolling: I mean, seriously, getting thrilled by cupboards? I couldn't go in and touch them, though, because the electricians were in there dismantling stuff. :bmoon:

Anyway, I'm posting 'coz I wanted to mention that while we were on the tour, they took us by this warehouse where they had a bunch of those screens stacked in slotted areas. There were also bunches of doors, windows, etc. (It was kinda cool). Those screens were a big part of what made Mick's place so stylish, and I so love when I see them pop up in other shows. :teeth: It prompts such a pleasant flashback. :cloud9:

One of my biggest regrets was not getting out to LA in time to go on that tour with the MoonlightCon in 2008. :sigh:

I've been on the WB tour 6 times since then and have seen many of the locations, but not getting to set foot in the FOS still stings.

I do remember you screaming, Alle, when our cart came within sight of that piece of paneling. :snicker: It was MDF and I'm so glad you had the guts to ask about it.

That was pretty amazing...but the whole tour we did that day were moments to remember--like all of us standing on the doorstep of Josef's New York townhouse.

I think the guide was a little bemused at how much we knew about the sets and locations!

I took the tour at the LA Con, too--that was a golden opportunity for WB to sell out their Moonlight souvenirs  I was so disappointed that we couldn't take pictures of the sets...and in 2008, few of us had cameras on our cell phones to sneak pics with (although I think one or two people did get some pictures.) I remember also, that we weren't supposed to touch anything, but I believe I might have given Mick's bookcase a quick caress!

And the crystal fireplace looked just as awesome "in person" as it did on screen. :cloud9:
