Moonlight-inspired music: Share your favorites!

Post by allegrita »

Along with the amazing clothes, sets, locations, and cars, the songs in Moonlight episodes had an enormous impact on the "feel" of the show. Many fans have said that Moonlight got them interested in new musical artists, or revitalized their interest in music generally. (I'm certainly one of those.)

As our members explore this site, I'd like to highly recommend the Moonlight Music section, where you will find threads dedicated to the music played on our little show. Please explore, and add to the information you see there if you have anything you can share!

But this thread is a little different. In this thread we're inviting you to share music that reminds you of Moonlight. If you can give us a link to a YouTube vid or a sound clip of the song, that would be great, but please do give us the title and artist, and explain a little why that song reminds you of Moonlight.

I'll start, with a rather silly one. Tonight I heard the Bee Gees song "You Should be Dancing." It's a stupid disco song... but it's very vampy when you listen to the words, and for some reason it made me think of Mick and Coraline.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaXdTe2TYhs

You Should be Dancing

My baby moves at midnight
Goes right on till the dawn
My woman takes me higher
My woman keeps me warm

What you doin' in the back aah?
What you doin' in the back aah?
You should be dancing, yeah
Dancing, yeah

She's juicy and she's trouble
She gets it to me good
My woman gives me power
Goes right down to my blood

What you doin' in the back aah?
What you doin' in the back aah?
You should be dancing, yeah
Dancing, yeah

My baby moves at midnight
Goes right on till the dawn
My woman takes me higher
My woman keeps me warm

What you doin' on your back aah?
What you doin' on your back aah?
You should be dancing, yeah
Dancing, yeah

You should be dancing, yeah
You should be dancing, yeah
You should be dancing, yeah
You should be dancing, yeah
You should be dancing, yeah

Great idea alle!! :clapping: :clapping: Thank you for starting the thread.

I'll listen and be back when I've got a bit more time, but for now I'll share one song. The very first time I heard the song it reminded me of the last scene in Sonata.

What a fun thread! This old motown song, now sung by Joan Osborne, always makes me think of Beth thinking about Mick ... her awareness of her own passionate affair.

(Love is Like a) Heat Wave - Joan Osborne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTKFR3ra2ts

Whenever I'm with him
Something inside
Starts to burnin'
And I'm filled with desire

Could it be the devil in me
Or is this the way love's supposed to be

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from cryin'
It's tearing me apart

Whenever he calls my name
So slow, sweet and plain
I feel, yeah, yeah,
Well I feel that burning flame

Has my blood pressure got a hold on me
Or is this the way love's supposed to be

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from cryin'
It's tearing me apart

Sometimes I stare in space
Tears all over my face
I can't explain it, don't understand it
I ain't never felt like this before

But that doesn't mean it has me amazed
I don't know what to do, my head's in a haze

Just like a heatwave
Burning in my heart
Can't keep from cryin'
It's tearing me apart

Don't pass up this chance
This time it's a true romance

Heatwave

Okay, this is THE Coraline song. You can just see her as it plays.

"Witchy Woman"
by The Eagles

Raven hair and ruby lips
sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
she's a restless spirit on an endless flight
wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got
the moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
dancing shadows and firelight
crazy laughter in another
room and she drove herself to madness
with a silver spoon
woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,
let me tell your brother, she's been sleeping
in the Devil's bed.
And there's some rumors going round
someone's underground
she can rock you in the nighttime
'til your skin turns red
woo hoo witchy woman
see how high she flies
woo hoo witchy woman
she got the moon in her eye

I also heard an old song once while driving along, and immediately thought of ML... so much so that I implored coco to make a video of it, which she did!

It is a Rod Stewart song... tho Sheryl Crow and others have done it too... The First Cut is the Deepest.
It is about having been burned with a first love and trying to get the courage to love again. Totally got these images of Mick and his two women and all the love and joy and pain caused by both. To me, besides being a vampire tale, ML was a story of a very difficult, dangerous, and complicated love triangle, with Mick in the Middle.

So coco made a kick-@$$ vid... and it was her first, but not her last, MickCoraBeth vid. :clapping:

You can check it out right here: http://cocosfanvids.blogspot.com/search ... results=10

ETA: Changed the link to take you right to the page where this video is... it is on her vid blog... check out all her others while you're there!

Addicted by Kelly Clarkson.
http://www.ilike.com/artist/Kelly+Clark ... k/Addicted
(video quality isn't great, but her voice is phenomenal)

Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of Mick and Beth---and the lyrics could point at either one of them. In my mind, it's Mick all the way as far as the addiction is concerned!

It's like you're a drug
It's like you're a demon I can't face down.
It's like I'm stuck
It's like I running from you all the time.
And I know I let you have all the power.
It's like the only company I seek is misery all around

It's like you're a leech, sucking the life from me
It's like I can't breathe, without you inside of me
And I know I let you have all the power
And I realize I'm never gonna quit you over time

It's like I can't breathe
It's like I can't see anything
Nothing but you
I'm addicted to you
It's like I can't think
Without you interupting me
In my thoughts, in my dreams
You've taken over me
It's like I'm not me

It's like I'm lost
It's like I'm giving up slowly
It's like you're a ghost that's haunting me
Leave me alone.

It goes on to a great bridge where the lyrics are even more intense and I always picture Beth fighting her addiction to Mick. She's with Josh, attracted as hell to Mick, and he has gotten so far under her skin that she tries to run from him, but he haunts her thoughts day and night. Listen to the entire song and let me know your thoughts!

And I'll add on here - Eyes on Me - Celine Dion. The song reminds me of Coraline, or
the Vampire-Freshie relationship. I'm trying to add a link (on the phone :blushing: ) if it doesn't work - I will add the lyrics later.

Susie--isn't that a kick@$$ song?! Whenever I hear it, it takes me back to the ML days. It also makes me think of the whole Edward/Bella dynamic as well. I guess it just makes for a great sexy vamp song no matter how you look at it!!

Thanks again alle for this thread---it is amazing how music is so intertwined in our lives. I enjoy hearing about everyone's picks and getting to hear songs I've never heard nor thought of before.

#1 Crush by Garbage. (Every time I hear this, it makes me think of Coraline and how she feels about Mick.)

Click here for YouTube fanvid by Darkravyn.

I would die for you
I would die for you
I've been dying just to feel you by my side
To know that you're mine

I will cry for you
I will cry for you
I will wash away your pain with all my tears
And drown your fear

I will pray for you
I will pray for you
I will sell my soul for something pure and true
Someone like you

See your face every place that I walk in
Hear your voice every time I am talking
You will believe in me
And I will never be ignored

I will burn for you
Feel pain for you
I will twist the knife and bleed my aching heart
And tear it apart

I will lie for you
Beg and steal for you
I will crawl on hands and knees until you see
You're just like me

Violate all The love that I'm missing
Throw away all the pain that I'm living
You will believe in me
And I can never be ignored

I would die for you
I would kill for you
I will steal for you
I'd do time for you
I would wait for you
I'd make room for you
I'd sail ships for you
To be close to you
To be a part of you
'Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
I would die for you.

Speaking of kick-@$$ coco vids... she made an amazing one for me from a song by Dave Matthews called "Some Devil." Here's a link to the thread with her vid: viewtopic.php?f=384&t=4508 It's allll about Mick's love for Coraline, the burning passion, the love, and the destruction and pain...

Some Devil
by Dave Matthews

One last kiss, one only
Then I'll let you go
Hard for you I've fallen
But you can't break my fall

I'm broken don't break me
When I hit the ground
Some devil some angel
Has got me to the bones

You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Is such a long and lonely time

Too drunk and still drinking
It's just the way I feel
It's alright
Is what you told me
'Cause what we had was so beautiful
Feel heavy like floating
At the bottom of the sea

You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Is such a long and lonely time

Some devil is stuck inside of me
I cannot set it free
I wish, I wish I was dead and you were grieving
Just so that you could know
Some angel is stuck inside of me
But I cannot set you free

You said always and forever
Now I believe you baby
You said always and forever
Such a long and lonely time

Stuck inside of me

this reminds me of what Beth might have gone through..... while she twisted between Josh and Mick.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EGx4_WS ... 1&index=65

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
of the moon
Come to my window
I'll be home soon

I would dial the numbers
Just to listen to your breath
I would stand inside my hell
And hold the hand of death
You don't know how far I'd go
To ease this precious ache
You don't know how much I'd give
Or how much I can take

Just to reach you
Just to reach you
Just to reach you

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
of the moon
Come to my window
I'll be home soon

Keeping my eyes open
I cannot afford to sleep
Giving away promises
I know that I can't keep
Nothing fills the blackness
That has seeped into my chest
I need you in my blood
I am forsaking all the rest
Just to reach you
Just to reach you
Oh to reach you

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
of the moon
Come to my window
I'll be home soon

I don't care what they think
I don't care what they say
What do they know about this
love anyway

Come to my window
Crawl inside, wait by the light
of the moon
Come to my window
I'll be home soon

definitely Dave Matthews is RIPE with music describing the tormented emotions between Mick and Coraline..... I love "Crash"

I think of that chair flying thru the glass when I hear this.....it's on my iPod on a Moonlight inspired playlist
(right after my Moonlight playlist with the shows actual songs.)
I am just a little ML fixated.

You've got your ball
you've got your chain
tied to me tight tie me up again
who's got their claws
in you my friend
Into your heart I'll beat again
Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
and sweet you roll
Lost for you I'm so lost for you

You come crash into me
And I come into you
I come into you
In a boys dream
In a boys dream

Touch your lips just so I know
In your eyes, love, it glows so
I'm bare boned and crazy for you
When you come crash
into me, baby
And I come into you
In a boys dream
In a boys dream

If I've gone overboard
Then I'm begging you
to forgive me
in my haste
When I'm holding you so girl
close to me

Oh and you come crash
into me, baby
And I come into you
Hike up your skirt a little more
and show the world to me
Hike up your skirt a little more
and show your world to me
In a boys dream.. In a boys dream

Oh I watch you there
through the window
And I stare at you
You wear nothing but you
wear it so well
tied up and twisted
the way I'd like to be
For you, for me, come crash
into me
