I do not own any Moonlight characters, no copyright infringement is intended.

Beth arrived at Kostan Industries promptly at 9AM. She signed in, showed her ID and was escorted to the Private Elevator which required a thumb print to let you off on the 37th Floor.

Josef’s assistant Laura announced her and she entered the office where he had a freshie on each side and one by his feet.

“Josef I really appreciate you seeing me this early. I have interviews this afternoon, I asked Tangie for help but she said I had to clear it through you.”

“Beth, you call my Head Freshie and ask her for the list of questions she uses to screen applicants. Do you really think she’d hand that out to just anyone?

“Gee, thanks. Nice to know I’m just….anyone.”

Josef sighed. “Beth, does Mick know you’re grocery shopping for him?”

She frowned. “Josef, he needs live blood, he barely survived that battle with the Duvalls. He needs fresh food on a regular basis.

“How is the first Mrs. St. John?” Josef asked.

“Living elsewhere until my natural death and we’re done talking about my kidnapper.”

Josef smiled. “Fine. Where have you gotten these candidates?

“I asked Charles to give me a list of freelance freshies that weren’t on anyone’s almost exclusive list.”

“Good, I was worried you posted an ad on Criag’s List. Feed Dracula, health insurance included.”

“Josef! Give me some credit.”

“You’re only human, Beth. All right, I’m not giving you my six week interview process but I will give you the nine questions that will narrow down your choices.

“Nine questions?’

“Yes. Pay attention.

1. “What’s your blood type?” He hates B Negative, he can stomach B Positive but better to eliminate them all from the get.

2. Are you a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore? These are personal preferences that he’ll decide, I won't reject a vegetarian out of hand but they require more tasting.

3. Next and it sounds silly but it's important. Casablanca, Love Story, The Way We Were. Tell me your feelings on the romantic relationships in each of these movies.

“What the hell does that have to do with feeding Mick? Beth asked.

“You are shopping for your lover, putting strangers in a position that will sexually arouse them. You want to know if they will over-romanticize their feelings with Mick.

“But all the relationships ended in those movies.

“Exactly, you don’t bring up Romeo and Juliet. You are setting the stage, Stay away from my man.”

"What if they haven't seen those movies?"

"It's LA everyone has seen classic films."

Beth rolled her eyes.

Question 4 “Tell me your introduction to Vampire Mythology, Classic Literature, Film or TV media, or YA.

“What difference does that make?

“I just like to know if they think I’m going to sparkle, be soulless or, burst into flames.

Josef!

Question 5 “Are you in a relationship?

“You can’t ask that.”

Josef laughed. “Yes, I can. If you’re in a relationship, you better be interviewing as a tag team because I don’t need anyone who has to explain where they are at 4A.

Question 6 “Is that your natural hair color and have you had any tattoos in the last twelve months?”

“Josef, this is a job interview, you can’t discriminate against people."

“Beth, I do not discriminate on race, gender or religion. That being said I don’t like the taste of hair dye and most vampires can’t stand what tattoos do to your flavor for the first year. If you want to keep him on fresh, you can’t have any poorly prepared meals.

Question 7 "Do you or have you ever had any sexually transmitted diseases?

Beth was annoyed. “They aren’t going to have sex with him.”

“Of course not.

“And he can’t get sick so….

“Beth, this question is to determine whether they will tell the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. Mick will know on first sip if they’ve ever been sick. If they lie to you, you don't want anything to do with them.

Question 8 "What is your primary incentive for pursuing this line of work? Excitement, Financial, Legacy?

“Legacy?” Beth asked.

“Beth there are some people that have been promised for seven generations to a vampire or are just professional freshies. I’ve had three or four generations of some families. Financial is good too. If they are pursuing an actual career then it's a mutually beneficial relationship, you have to worry about those looking for adventure. They can cause trouble.

Question 9 “Are you willing to let me draw a blood sample? “This is important because most freshies hate to give a cold sample. They can’t use their looks, charm or powers of seduction on the vampire. It’s just blood and if they’ve lied about drugs, disease or anything it will show up

“Josef, these are very strange questions.

“Beth, this isn’t a normal Nine to Five. It doesn’t matter if they went to Harvard or never finished high school. It’s not important if they’ve interned at Warner Brothers or worked the fryer at Carl Jr.s It’s all about the blood.

Are you sure about this?

“I’m positive. “Do you want to have Laura interview the first candidate for you?

“I can do it myself.”

“At least role play with Laura. Getting Mick on Fresh is important. I don't want you screwing this up."

"Your confidence in me is over-whelming."

"Beth, the fact that I'm letting you do it at all speaks volumes. If I wanted to shut you down I'd just call Mick and tell him what you're planning. Now, go get some fresh produce."

Carol! You always come through with a great challenge response and this is no exception! :twothumbs:

I love the questions Josef uses and his reasoning behind them is flawless. This is a no-nosense topic, but I can see a bit of a devilish twinkle in his eye as he's explaining some of them. :winky:

Thank you for a fabulous take on the challenge! :flowers:

Happy 9th birthday! :celebrate:

Oh my gosh, Carol, this is just fabulous. Josef's questions sound so odd, but he has great reasons for each one. ( And I agree, I can hear the devilish tone in his voice as I read this... he does love ribbing Beth!) :snicker:

And good for Mick for rescuing Coraline! :yahoo: :hearts:

This is such a wonderful response to the Challenge! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

What a great take on the challenge, Carol! Very enjoyable read. I agree with Lilly and Alle about Josef's tone in this - it's how he deals with Beth!

"Now go get some fresh produce." :highfive:

 Love this Carol! And agree that Josef's no nonsense approach shines through here! He's a businessman through and through alright. But so reasoned!!

Thanks so much for sharing and insight into a very interesting conversation!

This was fabulous!! The questions seemed kind of off base at first, but once Josef explained why it was necessary, it made perfect sense. What a great story!! :twothumbs:

Thank you so much every one. It's been so long since I've written Josef. I think it helped that I just recently watched the first two episodes. Have to get back on track with the rewatch

This is so cute! Love the way Josef presents the questions to Beth, and I have to wonder if he is pulling her leg with the vampire mythology one! Having just watched Dr. Feelgood I had to laugh again at Mick's "we're extremely careful" line. Somehow that does not fit with Josef's multitudes of employees who know what he is! I love the way you have Josef refer to it as grocery shopping and shopping for produce. And I agree that the farmer is mouthing off to the food here!
